Overview:
The DevOps Software Engineer is responsible for ensuring the stability, scalability, and reliability of our on-prem and cloud platform. You will collaborate with development, operations, and security teams to design, build, and maintain systems that are resilient, automated, and performant. Your role will involve troubleshooting infrastructure issues, implementing and automating best practices, and continuously improving our systems to meet both current and future business needs.

Responsibilities:
System Reliability & Performance:
Monitor, maintain, and improve the performance, availability, and scalability of platform components, including on-prem devices and support services.
Implement and manage proactive monitoring solutions to prevent system outages by detecting conditions that lead to an outage and correcting them before an outage can occur – possibly even through the development of self-healing services running on devices.

Incident Response & Troubleshooting:
Participate in third-tier incident resolution affecting customer device and internal service reliability and performance.
Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and post-mortems for incidents, identifying opportunities to prevent recurrence.
Collaboration & Communication:
Work closely with cross-functional teams, including DevOps, cloud engineers, customer support, quality assurance and developers, to build highly available, secure, and cost-efficient infrastructure.
Advocate and implement best practices for system architecture, reliability, and performance.

Capacity Planning & Optimization:
Perform capacity planning and forecasting for infrastructure to ensure resources are efficiently used while meeting the performance requirements of the platform.
Collect and analyze health from thousands of IoT on-prem devices to measure the effects of changes (releases, load, environmental) on the general performance and reliability of those devices. Make recommendations and implement systems which support collection, analysis and improvement.
Continuous Improvement:
Identify and implement improvements to the reliability and efficiency of the infrastructure.
Drive innovation in infrastructure technologies and processes, staying up-to-date on the latest trends in cloud computing, infrastructure, and DevOps practices.

Preferred Skills/Experience:
3-5 years of experience in a similar role focused on infrastructure reliability, or supporting end customers using IoT devices and cloud infrastructure .
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
Understanding or willing to learn infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation (CDK).
Solid understanding of networking principles (DNS, load balancing, firewalls, VPNs).
3-5 years of experience troubleshooting Linux (especially on compact devices such as raspberry pi)
Proven ability t troubleshoot complex infrastructure problems, perform root cause analysis, and implement solutions.
Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, Bash, Go, etc.) to automate repetitive tasks and manage infrastructure.
Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams.
Ability to clearly document systems, procedures, and incidents.
Experience troubleshooting systems which are remote and installed at a customer site where the device performs critical customer functions.
