The Medical Technologist /Clinical Laboratory Scientistunder the supervision of designated Manager, performs diagnostic analytic testson human body fluids such as blood, sputum, stool, cerebrospinal fluid,peritoneal fluid, pericardial fluid, and synovial fluid, as well as otherspecimens. Works within clinicallaboratories, doctors offices, reference labs, and within the biotechnologyindustry.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs specimen collection and processing duties as neededor assigned
Performs routine and special laboratory tests; analyzeshuman fluid samples on advanced analytical equipment or by using lower-techanalytic techniques available to the clinical laboratory, such as manual whiteblood cell differentials, bone marrow counts, and analysis via microscopy
Monitors, screens, and troubleshoots any analytical deviceresponsible for deriving critical patient information. These tasks include calibrations, qualitycontrol, run-by-run assessment, instrument maintenance, statistical control ofobserved data, and recording of normal operations
May troubleshoot, adjust, and/or repair complicatedinstruments
Recognizes abnormalities in the equipment and know how tocorrect them
Recognizes test inconsistencies and takes appropriatecorrective action
Recognizes any and all factors that could introduce errorinto the analysis such as if a body fluid has potentially been contaminated orcollected improperly; rejects substandard specimens to maintain the integrityof the laboratory process
Performs quality control tests according to procedure andrecords data; analyses data and takes corrective action when results areoutside of acceptable limits
Performs common tests such as complete blood count, completemetabolic panel, electrolyte panel, liver function test, urinalysis,prothrombin time, and activated partial thromboplastin time
Prepares test reports legibly and according to the standardsestablished by the facility; reviews reports for accuracy and clinicalindications
Maintains a neat and clean work area; restocks dailysupplies as needed; follows all laboratory and facility safety practices
Adheres to all Amergis and worksite rules, policies andprocedures
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelors degree in science, biology or other related fieldis required
Successful completion of a Medical Technologist program thatis accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education (CAHEA) required
At least 1 year of experience in a facility or a relatedfield preferred
Successful completion of Amergis testingprocess
Current BLS card if required via contract or staterequirement
Current physical exam, if required by state regulations orcontract
Current TB test or chest x-ray
Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to andfrom appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors,co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in theEnglish language is required
Computer proficiency required
Successful completion of background screening and onboardingprocess
Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements
