Job Description
BAE Systems is hiring a Director of Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE). The role reports to the Ordnance Systems (OSI) Site General Manager. The Ordnance Systems (OSI) Business Unit SHE Director provides leadership across the site to drive safety process and program improvements; ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations; ensure environmental risks are identified and mitigated; reduce the safety, health, and environmental impacts of our business; and oversee and lead efforts to meet Process Safety Management program requirements. The position will sit at the Radford, Virginia site and manage Safety, Process Safety, Health, and Environmental function.
Responsibilities:
Manage initiatives that drive continuous improvements in safety, health, environmental compliance and performance across the business in line with BAE s commitment to Corporate Responsibility
Manage and consult on safety and health processes to assure proper execution of practices in accordance with applicable internal and external regulations
Manage EPA-directed Risk Management Program requirements per operations
Manage/consult on environmental processes to assure permitted facilities operate in compliance with regulatory requirements
Manage/consult on environmental processes to assure proper surface and ground water management (i.e. permitting, treatment, etc.) and spill and contingency planning are following applicable regulations
Manage/consult on Process Safety Management and requirements to align with OSHA and FAR requirements
Participate in budget preparation, financial tracking, and monitoring progress toward department financial and budgetary goals
Participate in SHE Assurance and Management Systems Audits as a lead auditor, audit team member, or as a developer of audit protocols
Identify and establish needed support from external consultants, developing scopes of work and managing the work performed by those consultants
Manage/consult SHE-related processes associated with acquisitions and divestitures and with long term remediation efforts
Monitor developing SHE federal, state, and local regulatory requirements and risk reduction initiatives; analyze potential impacts to business system operations; and provide senior management with recommendations and approach as appropriate
Coordination, development, and engagement of SHE and operational personnel
Participation with the identification, development, and implementation of SHE goals and strategic planning
Improve Management of Change program controls to ensure adherence to Process Safety Management requirements and objectives
Lead or support change management initiatives across the business in alignment with corporate objectives and strategies
Serve as a leader to a diverse employee population; train, mentor, coach, and develop team
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
Bachelor s Degree in SH&E, Chemical Engineering, or other natural science/technical discipline and 12 years of experience or equivalent experience
Experience in Safety, Health, and Environmental Management
Experience in Operations/Program Management
Experience in People Management/Leadership
Experience in leading organizations in a Manufacturing environment
Experience in ISO Management Systems (9001, 14001, 45001)
Knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM)
Ability to drive a Safety-First culture
Ability to lead Process and Continuous Improvement
Ability to lead Change Management and Organizational Transformation
Ability to interact effectively with all levels of management and personnel at operating facilities
Ability to influence cross-functional teams to champion safe and ethical behavior
Ability to work with internal and external stakeholders, including customers and government representatives
Strong leadership skills with the ability to effectively lead and mentor team
Strong analytical problem-solving skills
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
Advanced Degree in the disciplines of SHE, Engineering, Natural Sciences, or Business
Certified Safety Professional or Certified Industrial Hygienist designation
Experience in Chemical Manufacturing industry
Expertise in Process Safety Management (PSM)
Experience in Department of Defense or U.S. Government Contracting
Experience in a Union environment

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $128100 – $217800
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
