Job Description

BAE Systems, one of the worlds largest defense contractors and a stable Fortune 500 Company, is hiring an Area Manager at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant in Radford, VA. The Area Manager is an integral member of the manufacturing operations leadership team, responsible for managing safe and environmentally responsible production activities for an assigned Area within our manufacturing environment. (Propellant Manufacturing)

The Area Managers primary role is to maintain, develop, and implement production planning activities and systems to manufacture various products to meet customer delivery requirements. Additional duties include production flow management, labor resource management and planning, liaising with functional support groups, attend various meetings, supervising both salary and union employees, assist in process investigations, and developing/maintaining manufacturing performance metrics.

Overall Responsibilities:

Provide leadership, mentorship, and coaching within a multidisciplinary team structure

Foster an environment of trust, open communication, and creative thinking within an inclusive team environment

Coach and help develop team members

Facilitate problem solving and collaboration within the production area

Lead the area to meet production goals while maintaining superior safety and environmental performance

Assure that the team members have the necessary training to effectively contribute to the team

Focus the team on the necessary activities to deliver against internal and external customer requirements

Coordinate with internal and external customers as necessary

Communicate team status, task accomplishment, and direction

Provide status reporting of team activities against the production plans and schedules

Manage by metrics to meet delivers and control manufacturing costs to include both direct and indirect elements

Conduct performance appraisals and reviews of subordinate employees

Other responsibilities as required for the position

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

Minimum 4 years of energetic work experience and/or a minimum of 8 years of work experience or equivalent experience in a manufacturing environment.

Must have experience managing production/manufacturing (union highly preferred) environment personnel and procedures, with great leadership skills.

Must have experience presenting reports or meetings to multi-level management and employees

Must have intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office experience. Word, Outlook, Excel, Power Point, some Access.

A thorough knowledge of a variety of manufacturing activities to include scheduling, personnel relations, budgeting, and workplace safety.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

Experience in propellant manufacturing

Experience in a bulk chemical manufacturing processes

Experience in hazardous chemical operations

Supervisory experience within a unionized workforce

Experience with complex process automation

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $87700 – $149100

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
