Summary What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position? This is a term appointment not to exceed 13 months with possible extensions up to a total of 4 years without further competition. Appointment to this position will not convey permanent status in the Federal service. Salary: $18.81 Per Hour (Step 01) to $21.94 Per Hour (Step 05) NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01. Responsibilities As a Custodian within the Eastern Ecological Science Center, some of your specific duties will include: Performs tasks that require moderately heavy physical effort and the use of common hand tools and simple power equipment. Loads and unloads trucks and other conveyances; opens heavy boxes and crates; stocks material for storage; moves furniture if required. Operates hand and power cleaning equipment for custodial work with little to no supervision. Understand written directions on products. Performs daily inspection of facility and reports any findings to supervisor. Physical Effort: A normal workday requires walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, frequent lifting, carrying, and moving of objects of 50 pounds, physical effort is typical. Working Conditions: Work is performed outdoors/ indoors (with adequate heating, lighting, and ventilation). The employee is exposed to dirt, odors, vibrations, skin irritation, weather elements and subject to minor injuries. Care is required to avoid serious injuries when working outdoors and on ladders. Taking and passing a pre-employment medical examination at Federal expense is required due to the physical demands of this job. A background investigation will be required for this position. Continued employment will be subject to the applicants successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for termination. Qualifications There is no specific length of training or experience required; however, applicants must be able to demonstrate the ability to perform the basic work of the position without more than normal supervision through experience shown in the written resume and responses to the job-related task statements in this announcement.
