Summary:

The Director Medical Staff Services will be responsible for daily operations of the medical staff office, including oversight of credentialing, privileging, bylaws and policy development, medical staff committee and peer review support, continuing medical education (CME), and compliance with The Joint Commission and other regulatory standards.

The Director is responsible for the design and integration of processes to support the medical staff in meeting organizational goals, and inclusion of best practices related to and medical staff. The Director works collaboratively with the Chief Medical Officer, President of the Medical Staff, the medical executive committee (MEC), and additional medical staff leaders (appointed, elected, volunteer, and paid, such as department chairs, committee chairs, etc.) to plan, organize, direct and coordinate the programs and activities of the Medical Staff Office (MSO) to ensure that the strategies of the MSO are supported and attained goals and plans are realized, and there is adherence to the requirements of regulatory and accreditation bodies that are relevant to the organized medical staff. The Director will assure there is a robust and confidential peer review system in place with timely feedback to the providers to improve the reappointment process and performance improvement. The Director will abstract, analyze, present quality data to the medical staff and work with other clinical areas to improve metrics as related to the medical staff Performance Improvement and peer review functions.

The Director Medical Staff Services will provide direct supervision to medical staff office employees and promotes communication and collaboration between hospital administration and the organized medical staff.

Responsibilities:

1. Demonstrates behaviors consistent with organization mission and goals.

2. Supports hospital and departmental Performance Improvement Goals.

3. Administrative preparation and achievement of operational and capital budgets.

4. Administers and communicates human resources policies to employees in proactive, equitable and supportive manner.

5. Assists and cooperates with other directors to fulfill the mission of the hospital

6. Oversees and directs all Medical Staff Office functions to ensure compliance with all TJC and CMS standards, Medical Staff Bylaws and any other applicable policies.

7. Directs communication between hospital, medical staff leadership and/or hospital departments to the medical staff members related to department responsibility or quality improvement.

8. Identifies staffing requirements of department and schedules staff appropriately.

9. Establishes job descriptions and performance standards for supervised employees. Delegates appropriate tasks and responsibilities.

10. Responsible for hiring and termination of staff and disciplinary actions.

11. Conducts periodic performance reviews and feedback.

12. Supports the Medical Staff organization and CMO by drawing together the credentialing, reappointment, FPPE/OPPE process, and peer review

13. Cultivates a relationship as a trusted partner to the medical staff while supporting the CMO’s role

14. Assists with design and installation of new bylaws.

15. Establishes and oversees new physician orientation process to include required Epic training by provider specialty.

16. Develops and fosters cooperative relationships among the medical staff and hospital staff.

17. Responsible for ensuring that the credentialing process for all physicians and allied health staff is handled in a timely manner by the Medical Staff Office.

18. Oversees the credentialing process with the credentialling coordinator

19. Performs OPPE/FPPE per Joint Commission standards on all providers.

20. Performs clinical chart reviews as assigned.

21. Assists to support medical staff quality indicators as they relate to employed, contracted, or credentialed providers.

22. Assists with Quality projects related to medical staff and hospital quality. (CHF, Sepsis, Mortality Readmissions, QIOC, etc)

23. Supports hospital quality efforts where medical staff are involved

24. Oversees Joint Commission and regulatory issues for medical staff and hospital quality.

25. Other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s degree in related field required. Masters Preferred

Experience

• Minimum of 2-4 years of supervisory experience and/or program management
