Microbiologist I

General Purpose:
This is the entry-level microbiologist position for Eastern Laboratory Services (ELS). Work under the guidance of lead technician and conducts analyses in the culture lab in accordance with approved methods and procedures to ensure analytical data meets the highest standards for accuracy and precision.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain analytical equipment according to manufacturers recommendations and Laboratory SOPs
In coordination with administrative staff, maintain an adequate inventory of consumable supplies necessary to perform analysis assigned
Continuously maintain work areas in safe, clean and sanitary condition
Keep current in advances in analytical methods and potential demand for analytical services. Make recommendations regarding introduction of new technology and services
Monitor turn-around times and perform technical and administrative quality control checks on outgoing data to ensure accuracy
Comply with laboratory hazardous and non-hazardous waste disposal plan
Make recommendations for continuous improvement
Provide necessary data for routine reports to customers and regulatory agencies as required
Address defined and straightforward problems using existing standard operating procedures or analytical/scientific methods
Communicate basic technical information with team members

Education and Experience
Bachelors degree in biology, microbiology or equivalent experience
Proficiency in matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF) technology is required for advancement
