Job Description:Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Iowa State University seeks a Postdoc Research Associate to develop sustainable technologies to enhance the value of renewable resources and waste streams. The postdoctoral scholar will assist the Principal Investigator in managing laboratory operations, supervising students, and coordinating various research projects. Additionally, the role requires writing technical reports and publishing findings in peer-reviewed journals, contributing to advancements in mechanical engineering and sustainability.

Two fixed term positions are available, one with anticipated appointment of six months and one with anticipated initial appointment of one year. Postdoctoral positions may be eligible for renewal based on availability of funding.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

PhD or Doctoral Degree

Preferred Qualifications:

• PhD in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or relevant fields

• Technical expertise and research experience in plasma chemistry, thermochemical conversion, or carbon-based material synthesis, applied to convert sustainable resources and waste streams (e.g., biomass, waste plastics, CO2) into chemicals, sustainable fuels, or materials

• Hands-on experience in operating/designing plasma reactors, thermochemical conversion reactors, material synthesis, and analytical instrumentations

• A publication record that demonstrates strong communication skills
