Circulation Manager

The City of Ankeny is accepting applications for the fulltime Circulation Manager position with the Ankeny Kirkendall Public Library. This position performs professional library tasks requiring knowledge and expertise in library service, especially in areas of leadership, management, and circulation. The Circulation Manager will plan and organize the proper functioning of the circulation department. This position will respond to staff calls for assistance, troubleshoot and solve hardware and software issues, and maintain the librarys Integrated Library System (ILS) system. This position is part of the library administrative team.
The salary range is$75,229 – $100,961 annuallywith starting pay up to midpoint with commensurate experience and qualifications.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Oversees and manages the circulation department, including the hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, and evaluations of part-time staff.
Assumes the responsibility for the administration, support, and staff training of the ILS (Polaris), online catalog,Envisionware self-checkout system, and automated materials handler (AMH) system.
Supports the Library Director in the planning, evaluation, development, and implementation of the strategic plan, budget, policies, and procedures as part of the administrative team.
Helps to maintain the librarys website and provides support for programming, marketing, and outreach efforts.
Responsible for the management, training, and supervision of the library volunteer program.
Understands and is able to perform all jobs related to the circulation department.
Provides desk coverage as needed.
Maintains statistics on circulation activity and delivers monthly circulation report to the Library Director.
Participates in continuing education programs related to the position and library services to provide best customer service.
Oversees notices for overdue, lost, and damaged materials.
Assists in enforcing library policies and procedures.
Interacts with customers and staff in a courteous and professional manner.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Entry Requirements and Skills
Graduation with a masters degree from an accredited college or university, in Library Science (MLS), business administration (MBA), public administration (MPA), education (M.Ed.) or related field.
A minimum of three to five (3-5) years of supervisory/management experience. Familiarity with programming preferred.
Must obtain and maintain State of Iowa Public Librarian Certification within six (6) months of hire.
Ability to work collaboratively with others in a rapidly-changing environment.
Intermediate computer skills required, especially in regard to working with ILS systems and automated materials handler.
Skill in written and verbal communication, including the ability to instruct others.
Familiarity with web design.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
