Summary:

Perform and/or assist in the operation, construction and maintenance of high-voltage transmission lines, substations, and associated equipment on the Great River Energy (GRE) system, demonstrating a strong commitment to safety.

A typical starting range for this position is $46.00 – $58.00 hourly. Responsibilities: Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Perform and/or assist in the construction and maintenance of transmission lines, substations and associated equipment, including switches, transformers, circuit breakers, and insulators. Work will be performed on energized and de-energized equipment.

Perform work at heights of 200 feet plus on energized voltages above 400kV to ground, via hot sticking, rubber gloving, and bare handing techniques. Utilize climbing, rope access, heavy equipment aerials including cranes and assist helicopter work.

Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on transmission lines to ensure reliable operation.

Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to transmission line performance, including diagnosing faults and implementing corrective actions.

Respond to emergency situations, such as outages or system failures, with urgency and in a safe and professional manner.

Communicate effectively with team members and other stakeholders to coordinate work and share information.

Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe work practices.

Operate and maintain assigned equipment, tools and materials to perform line work, including bucket trucks and other heavy equipment, climbing gear, and testing instruments.

Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, GIS mapping system, and technical manuals.

Conduct electrical tests and measurement to ensure system integrity, reliability and safe performance of GRE transmission.

Perform advanced rigging techniques in various work applications and attend recurring rigging training.

Qualifications: Minimum education requirements include certification or degree/diploma in electrical line work and related courses. Prefer three years of line construction and maintenance experience. Ability to maintain a current medical card and valid Class A CDL license required.

Working conditions will be indoors and outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather conditions of extreme cold or heat. Schedules shall be any combination of eight-, ten- or twelve-hour shifts and may require the incumbent to live within a 60-mile living radius of the reporting location. There will be occasional travel and overtime. This position requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, lift to 75 lbs., climb, balance, work at heights and work with arms above your head occasionally and/or frequently. Ability to frequently and/or occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, twist and squat, work on even and uneven surfaces and ability to work occasionally in confined space areas. Ability to frequently push, pull, carry, grasp and finger objects. Subject to frequent vibration and hazards and on occasion exposed to fumes, dust or mist. Must be able to differentiate colors, speak and hear. This position is designated as a safety sensitive position for drug, cannabis and alcohol testing purposes.
