Job Summary/Basic Function
About This Role:
The Laboratory Manager, Teaching labs is responsible for the management, organization, and supervision of all aspects of teaching laboratories. This position reports directly to the Chair of the Chemistry Department.
What You’ll Do – Position Responsibilities:
Hire and train student assistants, and graduate assistants working in chemistry teaching labs.
Prepare laboratory schedules. Coordinate chemistry/biochemistry laboratories on campus.
Responsible for providing the information for the purchase, proper storage of glassware and chemicals, and inventory of instruments related to teaching laboratories.
Prepare payroll budget authorizations. Retrieve, track, and approve timesheets for all student assistants and graduate assistants.
Provide training and guidance in work responsibilities; plan, assign, and direct work; reward and discipline employees including student assistants and graduate assistants; address complaints and resolve problems.
Establish and enforce proper disposal of materials, instruments, and sensitive documents related to teaching laboratories.
Coordinate tutoring at all levels of chemistry.
Coordinate inter-departmental and inter-college/university laboratory activities.
Attend Chemistry and Biochemistry department meetings as requested by department Chair.

Experience in coordinating, and supervising others.
Experience with laboratory management.
Experience in managing projects and/or budgets.
Must have good customer relations or student services skills.
Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Able to work independently to solve problems and to meet deadlines.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required move from lab to lab, to sit, communicate, reach, and manipulate objects, tools, or controls. The position requires mobility and minimal physical exertion. Duties involve moving materials weighing up to 10 pounds on a regular basis and up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment such as computer keyboard, mouse, scientific instrumentation, and similar machines.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related science.
