Description
Under general supervision of the Parks Operation Manager, the Park Ranger acts as an ambassador for City of College Station parks and facilities by ensuring a safe and pleasant environment for park patrons and by providing general enforcement, protection, and information to the public regarding amenities, rules and regulations.
Principal Duties
1. Patrol and monitor assigned parks and activity areas to include trails, picnic areas, pavilions, and other park areas to ensure safe and proper use of park and open spaces areas and facilities and to promote public safety.
2. Implement, monitor, and enforce relevant laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures; provide resources and information to patrons, including but not limited to park rules, operating hours, and applicable city ordinances; conducting investigations, educating rule violators and issuing citations, as necessary.
3. Responsible for controlled activity levels within assigned parks by unlocking/securing gates, checking park use and permits, and providing crowd control at City sponsored events.
4. Maintain records, complete incident reports and other routine documentation, and issue citations.
5. Facilitate a harmonious, and safe park environment to include by not limited to responding to and resolving customers concerns and complaints and addressing rule violations in a fair and timely manner.
6. Monitor and direct parking area traffic to ensure the safety of the public and staff.
7. Perform basic inspections of approved vendors to ensure compliance with City health ordinances, and park rules and regulations.
8. Conduct a variety of programs, tours, and other organized activities of a recreational or interpretive nature.
9. Provide first aid and emergency response as well as request emergency medical services and/or law enforcement services when appropriate. Assist first responder agencies when needed.
10. Attend meetings, training events and conferences related to job duties.
11. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
High School Diploma or G.E.D., and two (2) years experience related to area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid State of Texas Drivers License.
Registered Code Enforcement Officer Certification, or the ability to obtain within twelve (12) months of hire.
American Red Cross First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire. Excellent written and oral communication.
Skilled in handling conflict and uncertain situations.
Ability to demonstrate strong customer service skills and establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships.
Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions.
Ability to work on-call and emergency response.
Willingness and availability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays.
