Technical Operations is a technical organization within NBCUniversal providing technical and operational services across the complete NBCUniversal content management, fulfillment and distribution ecosystem. We ensure that each of our networks, shows and films are reliably delivered to every screen around the world 24/7/365. We manage a best-in-class operation, leading the industry with our scalable, reliable, geo-diverse operation.
The Technical Operations team in Centennial, CO manages playout and monitoring for NBCUniversal’s broadcast Networks and Local Stations and provides disaster recovery support for all NBCU cable networks. The Manager, On-Air Operations will be responsible for promoting and maintaining reliability within NBCUniversal’s Local Distribution operation supporting the NBCU Local portfolio of stations, streaming channels, and networks. This person will manage a team of Master Control Operators and/or Operations Supervisors responsible for channel playout and monitoring within a large multichannel operation and will be a subject matter expert in the technology, systems, and signal flow that make up the operation.
Job Duties
Ensure 99.999% on-air reliability for the channels within the Local Distribution operation
Interface with leadership and management across the NBCU Local division for coordination of all distribution through Dry Creek On-Air Operations
Hire, train, and manage a team of 24/7 Local Master Control Operators and/or Operations Supervisors
Lead a strong partnership with engineering and project teams to implement new technologies, resolve on-air issues, and ensure minimal on-air disruption during maintenance
Work closely with station production, programming, and sales operations teams to ensure proper scheduling of live and special events and develop execution plans
Provide clear direction to Master Control Operators and Operations Supervisors for the execution of daily operational duties and for complex programming such as sports, news, and other high-profile live events
Partner with the leadership team to develop technological and operational enhancements
Own escalation and root cause analysis for on-air issues
Serve as a Subject Matter Expert for all on-air technologies, systems and operational workflows
BA/BS in a related field or equivalent work experience
5 years of experience in a master control environment
2 years in a leadership role in a fast-paced environment requiring troubleshooting and processing skills, plus an ability to effectively lead, prioritize and adapt to changing scenarios.
Preferred Qualifications
Thorough understanding of television production, broadcast operations, and/or news/sports/entertainment technical production requirements
Proven ability to effectively lead, prioritize, energize, and coach others, including during high pressure situations
Ability to effectively manage projects and lead project teams. Previous experience managing project scope, schedule, and resources, ensuring timely and efficient execution
Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to effectively communicate/present across all levels of the organization, both verbally and in writing
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office products: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
Self-starter that demonstrates initiative and ability to work independently with little supervision
Technological curiosity and an improvement-oriented approach
A track record of meeting or exceeding performance expectations
Additional Requirements
Must be willing to work on-site in Centennial, CO
Must be willing and available to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays in order to meet the needs of the 24×7 operation
Required On-Site: This position is required to be performed full-time from an NBCUniversal-designated worksite.
