Consulting Structural Engineer I

Amentum is currently searching for an Consulting Engineer to work in our Englewood, CO office. The Consulting Engineer is responsible for providing engineering guidance, calculations, analysis, studies and recommendations for a specialized segment of engineering within schedule and budget of an assigned project. Additional responsibilities may be assigned according to the needs of the company, project, or contract.
Essential Responsibilities:
1. Prepares, reviews and approves drawings as required.
2. Leads various size groups of engineers, designers and/or specialists.
3. Uses data supplied by others to prepare a basic outline of work to be completed and establishes a schedule compatible with project goals and budgets.
4. Develops and documents all calculations for assignments.
5. Prepares and documents economic analyses and other system studies.
6. Provides progress reports and alerts others about delays and specialized conditions.
7. Prepares and presents expert testimony before regulatory bodies and courts.
8. Prepares and makes presentations to client and company management.
9. Contributes to technical literature in area of specialty.
10. Assists with the preparation of project scope within a specific discipline.
11. Works toward alignment of customer and company objectives.
12. Assists with interpreting codes and permitting as it relates to a specific discipline.
13. Fully understands the use of vendor documents and can review documents for accuracy.
14. Ensures quality, quantity, and completeness of the assigned engineering tasks.
15. In depth knowledge of the process of preparing and checking calculations, as well as, approval, revision, retention, and storage of project calculations.
16. In-depth knowledge of drawing production and checking, as well as, approval, revision, retention, and storage of engineering drawings.
Minimum Requirements
– US Citizen
– Bachelor of Science degree (or equivalent education) in an appropriate engineering discipline or the sciences from a four year accredited college or university.
– 8 years of professional experience within a discipline or specialty.
– Intermediate level of knowledge within a specific discipline and understanding of the other disciplines.
– In-depth knowledge of industry codes and standards, including AISC 360, ASCE 7, IBC, and ACI 318
– In-depth knowledge and expertise in STAAD.Pro modeling, analysis, design, and post processing
– In-depth knowledge and expertise in MathCad, Excel, and Word
– Good oral and written communication skills; working knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications; organizational skills and ability to perform detail-oriented work are required.
– Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.
– Position may require travel.
Preferred Qualification
Master of Science degree or Doctorate in structural engineering
– Professional Engineering License.
– Government or nuclear experience, i.e., DOD, DOE, NR
– In-depth knowledge of AISC Seismic Design Provisions, i.e., AISC 341
– Basic knowledge of nuclear facility design codes including ACI 349, AISC N690, ASCE 43, and DOE-STD-1020
– Working knowledge of seismic response spectrum analysis
– Basic knowledge of ANSYS analysis software
Compensation & Benefits
HIRING SALARY RANGE: $79 – $90 hourly (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
