Proj Scientist I

University Corp. For Atmospheric Research (UCAR)

Job Description Summary:This full-time Project Scientist I position will
lead and work with teams of RAL scientists and engineers to develop,
enhance, and carry out:
1) multiscale WRF-FastEddy coupled simulations of offshore boundary layers,
2) sub-meter scale modeling of within offshore platform effects,
3) simulations of transport and dispersion in complex meteorological
environments, including obstacles.

What You Will Do
Here is a brief summary of what one would expect to be generally responsible
for in this role.

Work with RAL scientists and engineers to produce improved multiscale modeling
capabilities for various applications (mesoscale-to-LES). In particular,
conduct original research on methane emissions, transport, and dispersion
in complex offshore facilities. This work will include:
1. Designing mesoscale simulations of the offshore environment and
characterizing relevant events/conditions from climatological analyses.
2. Development of coupled WRF-FastEddy simulations to enable sub-meter
modeling within complex offshore oil and gas facilities.
3. Validation of modeling results with in-situ observations.

Lead analyses of wind, turbulence, and T&D patterns within offshore
platforms to understand representativeness and propose the optimal location of
sensors in the field

Interact, coordinate with, and lead other scientists and engineers on
specific scientific tasks to achieve project goals.

Collaborate with a broader team of RAL scientists and engineers to extend
RALs multiscale modeling capabilities. This will include incorporating,
testing, and validating additional physics parameterizations in the FastEddy
LES model, including land-surface, radiation, and microphysics
processes-contribution toward periodic releases of the FastEddy open-source
repository and corresponding documentation.

Present results of research and development efforts in peer-reviewed journal
articles and at scientific conferences and meetings with program sponsors.
Prepare summary reports as needed.

Who Wed Love To Join Our Team
