Position Announcement

 

Under the direction of the Writing Center Director, the professional tutor primarily tutors graduate students, graduate school applicants, and faculty and may also tutor undergraduates as needed (individually and in groups). Tutors via face-to-face tutorials and/or online (asynchronous) tutorial sessions. Addresses the needs of learners of all backgrounds and implements various instructional/tutorial strategies and techniques. Leads and/or mentors other tutors. Attends weekly training meetings.

 

Summary of Responsibilities

 

• Tutors students in one-on-one or group tutorials (either live, face-to-face sessions or online asynchronous sessions).

• Attends training and works on certification/training materials.

• Mentors new tutors and works on specialized projects.

• Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

 

Preferred Qualifications

Previous tutoring experience preferred, CRLA completing and completed Level 3 preferred

 

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

 

Knowledge

 

• Knowledge of basic tutorial and study strategies.

• Working knowledge of topics covered in ENGH 0890 & 1005; ENGL 1010 & 2010. Other training provided.

• Working knowledge of graduate-level writing and graduate school application writing genres.

• Applicants will have taken ENGL 2010, preferably at UVU.

• Familiarity with campus resources

• Time and task-management skills.

• Ability to collaborate with students to enhance their knowledge of tutored subject.
