Catholic Charities is seeking an Educator for our Workforce & Education department at 525 Washington, Buffalo, NY

Catholic Charities is a non-profit organization that offers an array of programs that strive to empower individuals, children and families. Catholic Charities of Buffalo, NY, is the most comprehensive human service provider serving the eight counties of Western New York with dozens of programs at 40 professionally staffed locations. Our programs include comprehensive counseling services for all ages, basic emergency assistance including operating 8 food pantries, mental health services, chemical dependency treatment, educational and job readiness services, services to older adults, marriage counseling, immigration and refugee assistance and a variety of programs that address prevention and treatment of a number of family issues.

JOB SUMMARY: HSE/ESL Educator will prepare course materials and design lessons to cover all aspects of the English language, whether written or verbal. Responsible for tracking student progress and developing an individual educational service strategy.

Prepare students to pass the GED/HSE High School Equivalency test by teaching basic through intermediate skills in the following areas:

Math (emphasis on problem solving, algebra, geometry and word problems)

Reading (emphasis on analytical and critical reading of all genres)

Writing (emphasis on organization and clarity)

Science (emphasis on understanding and interpreting scientific information)

Social Studies (emphasis on understanding and using information related to social studies)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Administer and evaluate BEST Plus, TABE and practice GED Test

Utilizes established methods to assess students strengths and weaknesses and begin to employ these methods

Formulates goals and objectives as a result of ongoing student assessment

Establishes an individualized educational plan for each student

Implements an individualized educational plan with appropriate methods of instruction.

Assesses and evaluates student progress

Employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies to meet different aptitudes and interests of students

Provide a nurturing and supportive learning environment that encourages student responsibility and incorporates challenging instructional strategies

Adapt curriculum to provide individual, small group, and/or remedial instruction as to meet the needs of individual students and subgroups of students

Establish and maintain standards of student behavior required to run an orderly and productive classroom environment

Maintain complete and accurate records of student progress and evidence of growth and progress

Performs the administrative tasks related to educators caseload and other work

Learn and utilize program specific data tracking system (OSOS)

Participates in the team approach with the counseling and employment components

Assess students academic areas as they pertain to entrance into college or training program

Meets the quantitative expectations established by the agency in accordance with program contacts, workers experience, skill and assignments

Participates in agency training, outside workshops, conferences, continuing education classes to broaden knowledge base

Perform other duties as assigned

Comply with the Agencys Compliance Program, Code of Ethics, laws, regulations, and ethical standards applicable to your job duties

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION:

Bachelors degree in education or similar field

Specify Special Requirements:

At least 1 year of teaching or co-teaching experience and demonstrated ability to perform at the Educator level

PREFERRED:

One year of educational instruction experience

New York State Teaching Certification

Experience working with older youth and adult population.

Best Plus and TABE certified.

Familiar with HSE and/or ESL instruction focused on GED test.
