Our Supervisor assists in leading a team of professional staff and bright, young, talented college students who are eager to learn and be inspired to work together to deliver a WOW to guests in Taverna Banfi. Your Role as a Supervisor:
As a member of The Statler Hotels Food and Beverage Team, you will oversee all aspects of service for the shift operation in Taverna Banfi and In-Room Dining. This role will develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, which may represent a wide variety of groups on campus, oversee the day-to-day management of Taverna Banfi and In-Room dining, assuring the delivery of an exceptional dining experience for our guests.You will support the hotels role as a learning laboratory for students by providing a quality, career-related work experience for students and participating in educational-related activities with the Hotel Schools faculty and students. You will provide mentoring support for participants in the Hotel Leadership Development Program and the Cornell Hospitality Internship Program. Other management duties will include: attend and participate in college, hotel, and departmental meetings; assist other operational areas of the hotel as needed, including service in Meetings & Events and Regent Lounge; lead the department budget process, inventory and purchasing; communicate with hotel maintenance and housekeeping for facility maintenance, repair and cleaning needs, and submit work orders as necessary.
Additional Job Duties include:
Take and confirm reservations, pre-assign tables, ensure the floor configuration matches the reservation.
Assign server sections and rotate seating to ensure service quality.
Answer the phone using established phone etiquette.
Know how to place guests on hold, transfer guests correctly, and check messages; regular phone duties.
Be able to take to-go orders and room service orders over the phone and input the order into the point-of-sale system as necessary.
Ensure menus for correct service period are stocked and clean.
Greet and seat guests as they enter the restaurant and be able to direct guests to all functions in the hotel.
Work closely with leadership team on MOS audits and training for students and servers.
Work closely with the leadership team to develop service and skills programs that are proactive.
Work with new hires and departmental trainers to assist in the “onboarding” of new colleagues.
Develop service/skills-based training to support the Back of House team.
Qualifications:
We are seeking candidates who have the right combination of college education, food & beverage management experience and mastery of the field of restaurant management to be an effective, inspirational leader.
- Highly motivated, dynamic individual with a professional demeanor and superior customer service skills, indicative of a AAA rated Four Diamond hotel.
- A Bachelors Degree and two to four years experience with proven ability to manage diverse foodservice operations, including: upscale dining room service, bar operation, and quick service operations.
- Provide inspirational training, coaching and mentoring to college students in an experiential learning environment.
- Takes pride in presenting a professional, well-groomed appearance and is motivated to be a valuable contributor to our team of professional and student staff.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
- Proven experience connecting diversity, inclusion, and wellbeing practices to business goals.
- Demonstrated skill in understanding of cultural differences.
- Basic reading, writing, and computer skills, including Microsoft Office products and restaurant POS systems.
- Must be able to work on feet for extended periods, lift and carry plates of food across dining room.
- Must be able to work a flexible work schedule including evening, weekends and holidays.
