The Surgical Clinical Reviewer is responsible for high quality data abstraction and ongoing data collection of surgical patients. Additional activities include generating reports, analyzing data, and assisting with data for research projects.

Responsibilities
Successfully completes the American College of Surgeons (ACS) National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) credentialling.
Participates in on-going training, conferences, and conference calls.
Collects clinical data on variables, including preoperative risk factors, intraoperative variables and 30-day postoperative mortality and morbidity outcomes for patients surgical procedures in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Obtains complete 30-day follow up on all participating patients through the generation of a 30-day follow-up letter and/or phone calls to patients and periodic death searches of public records.
Follows data acquisition and transmission protocol set out in the ACS NSQIP Operating Manual to ensure completeness and accuracy.
Validates and submits NSQIP data for assigned number of cycles prior to cycle end date and conducts data audits as needed.
Participates in regular audits as conducted by ACS NSQIP staff to test data quality.
Provides leadership for hospital wide performance improvement teams that may be assigned including analyzing data and preparing reports for meetings/leadership.
Analyzes and evaluates NSQIP Semi-Annual Report (SAR) and reviews results with quality improvement (QI) Surgeon Champions, Childrens Surgical Verification Program Manager, and surgical department quality teams.
Meets regularly with the QI Surgeon Champions and Childrens Surgical Verification Program Manager to review occurrences.
Qualifications
Education Requirement: Bachelor of Nursing with experience with surgical patients, required.
Licensure Requirement: State of Ohio nursing license, required.
Skills:
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Demonstrates experience in ability to analyze and interpret data. Experience: 2 years working in medical/surgical or Perioperative setting, required.
