OB TECHNICIAN, FH – LABOR & DELIVERY

facility. This job is ON – SITE. FTE: 0.900000 Shift: Shift 3 Job
Summary: The OB Tech will scrub into surgical cases such as c-sections
as well as attend and assist during vaginal deliveries. Under the
direction and supervision of a registered nurse, the OB Technician
performs a variety of routine duties within the obstetric department
including organization of environment, stocking of labor rooms, triage
rooms, recovery rooms, and ORs, maintenance of equipment including
quality control checks, assisting physicians and nurses with
operative/delivery room procedures, as well as basic tasks necessary to
provide for care, comfort and safety of patients, and clerical support.
The OB tech will also perform scrubbing functions for cesarean sections,
emergent hysterectomies, postpartum tubal ligations, dilation and
curettage procedures, cerclage placement and removal, fetal intervention
surgical cases, off unit OB operating room cases including high risk
cesarean deliveries and attend trauma cases of pregnant patients.
Responsible to the Labor and Delivery Leadership, Charge Nurses and the
RNs on duty on each assigned shift. Other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE PREFERRED: Previous experience as a Surgical Tech or OB Tech
is strongly preferred. EDUCATION DESCRIPTION: High School Diploma or
equivalent and one of the following: a graduate of a CAAHEP or ABHES
accredited Medical Assistant Program (Associate, Diploma, or
Certificate), or a graduate of a CAAHEP or ABHES accredited Surgical
Technologist Program (Associate, Diploma, or Certificate), or CNA or LPN
is required. Incumbents in the position prior to October 1, 2016, may
substitute this educational requirement with the following statement –
minimum of 2 years work experience in a clinical setting is required.
SPECIAL SKILLS DESCRIPTION: Knowledge of basic anatomy, physiology and
medical terminology is required. Knowledge of (or ability to learn)
surgical tools, sterile technique, as well as effective communication
with nursing and physicians is required. LICENSURE DESCRIPTION: One of
the following is required: State of Wisconsin licensure as a Licensed
Practical Nurse, State of Wisconsin Nursing Assistant Certification; or
completion of a CAAHEP or ABHES accredited Medical Assistant Program, or
completion of a CAAHEP or ABHES accredited Surgical Technologist
Program. In addition, American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life
Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent
