The Staff Educator functions at a professional management level, using clinical expertise with communication and associate training skills to plan, organize, implement and evaluate the facilitys education program in accordance with State and Federal regulations and the policies of UMC. Collaborates with the Administrator, Director of Nursing, Department Managers and Supervisors to ensure that individualized education programs are provided to all associates as required, mandated, or as needed to enhance and improve job performance and to stimulate personal growth and development.
Requirements for a Staff Educator:
Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing. RN in good standing in NJ.
5-10 years of progressively more responsible job-related experience in long term care.
Experience with the geriatric population.
Knowledge of EMR.
Strong leadership skills and a commitment to education as a methodology for promoting quality improvement in the delivery of resident care services.
Basic knowledge and experience with electronic mail and calendaring systems.
5 years experience as a clinical nurse in long term care.
Experience in teaching or professional development preferred.
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (C.P.R.) Certified.
I.V. Certified.
Must be eligible or willing to obtain qualifications to coordinate a State Approved Certified Nurse Aide Training program.
Responsibilities for a Staff Educator:
Monitors compliance related to mandatory in service, and other regulatory requirements as directed by the DRL/DON. Manage the online and /or web-based training program including tracking completion of assignments and following up as necessary. Monitors completion of the CMA, HHA, CNA and LPN annual competencies. Ensure CNA meets annual 12-hour in-service requirement and CMA meet 10-hour medication requirement.
Coordinate and conduct community- wide new hire orientation. Identify applicable competencies required for clinical associates. Monitor training and education attendance records including required regulatory needs for CNAs. Manage the online and /or web-based training program including tracking completion of assignments and following up as necessary. Plan, organize, and implement ongoing education and training programs. Maintain a working knowledge of clinical skills and changing regulatory requirements. Serve as the point of contact and community representative for clinical training partnerships and student training. Conducting Certified Pulmonary Resuscitation courses.
Oversee the medication administration program and delegation to CMA on an ongoing basis as per state guidelines. Assist with completion of assessments and individual service plan as delegated by the DRL.
Provides expert nursing care. Assists other nurses and health care professionals, serving as mentor and role model, in achieving and/or maintaining clinical competence through dissemination of information in informal bedside teaching, educational programs and resident rounds.
Assists with nursing staff education and patient/family education provided by other nursing staff (i.e. Staff Nurse, Nurse Mentor).
Maintains completed orientation records and individual employee educational files.
Coordinates orientation activities/schedule for orientee and mentor pair and ensures completion, follow-up, and evaluation of clinical field orientation. Provides guidance and support to both orientees and mentors.
Assists nurse mentors with residents and care givers educational needs, problem resolution, and health management across the continuum of care.
Serves as a facilitator to the staff nurse and CNA and actively mentors and supports their growth in the profession and clinical practice. Provides guidance, resources, and knowledge for professional growth of others.
