Title: Maintenance Specialist FY2425110 Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor or Facilities Director Status: Hourly overtime eligible Union position optional Full time, 12 month appointment Hourly Wage: $19.45 – $21.50/hour DOE Purpose Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor and indirect supervision by the Facilities Director, performs a variety of preventive maintenance activities, emergency repairs to maintain the physical school premises in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all times in a safe, attractive, clean, and healthy environment for learning and work. Essential Job Duties Performs preventative maintenance and repairs on mechanical equipment. Performs light electrical repairs and replacements, including, but not limited to: switches, receptacles, light bulbs, and light fixtures. Performs light plumbing repairs and replacements, including, but not limited to: boilers, fixtures, toilets, sinks, water supply piping, and drain lines. Performs periodic maintenance tasks as appropriate for the HVAC System, including use of a computerized Building Management system. Regulates heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical use of fuel, water, and electricity. Performs tasks to maintain safe and operable condition of structural elements in District owned facilities. Uses hand tools of trade and related power equipment, Carpentry work involving installation of shelving, cabinets, whiteboards; painting and finishing cabinets, walls, ceilings, etc. as assigned. Assists with estimating costs of repair projects in terms of labor and material. Deals with emergency repair problems with efficiency and effectiveness. Performs regularly scheduled inspections of equipment and facilities, and recommends repair or replacement action to supervisor. Obtains equipment, tools and materials required for completion of assigned work. Prepares and maintains records to document work and repairs as requested. Uses computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, documents, calendar, e-mail and database software in the performance of the duties. Other duties as assigned Knowledge Skills Abilities Knowledge of the tools, techniques, practices, and terminology associated with the electrical, plumbing or construction trade. Knowledge of building code conformance standards for carpentry, plumbing, and electricity. Knowledge of occupational safety and health laws and regulations. Knowledge of safety practices and procedures. Ability to coordinate work with the work of other trades. Ability to follow oral or written work orders/instruction from supervisor. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure. Ability to describe orally or in writing maintenance or repair problems as needed. Ability to troubleshoot, problem solve and resolve carpentry, plumbing, electricity, and HVAC issues. Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work. Ability to read, write, understand and speak English fluently. Ability to manage time and responsibilities, adapt to changing work priorities, communicate with diverse groups, maintaining confidentiality, meet deadlines and schedules. Ability to set priorities, work as part of a team and work with and manage frequent interruptions. Ability to maintain confidentiality of student matters. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements and Board policies. Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions Ability to work above ground from ladders and automatic lifts. Skill in adhering to safety practices. Skill in preparing and maintaining accurate records and using pertinent software applications. General mechanical ability, agility and dexterity. Required Qualifications Any combination of training, education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school. Successful experience in building maintenance and repair. Preferred Qualifications Previous maintenance work experience in public school system or institute of higher education. Successful experience working with a computerized Building Management program. Necessary special requirements: Possess a Boilers License or the ability to obtain one within one year from start date. Montana Driver’s license or the ability to obtain license within three months of hire date with good driving record. Safety Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper use of tools and power equipment used in the performance of duties. Familiarity with the safety precautions of mechanical trades. Wears appropriate safety gear, including masks. Must comply with school districts chemical hygiene program and follow MSDS sheets.
