Commission Inspection
Job Summary
Provide code required skilled inspections for university construction
projects in compliance with the Universitys current adopted codes &
standards. Coordinate with applicable parties and Code Compliance & Fire
Safety on code required inspections and conditions of Certificates of
Occupancy. Conduct plan reviews on select projects. Work on project
assignments as directed by Lead Inspector / Construction Superintendent.
Collaborate with the project team and Associate Directors of Code
Compliance & Fire Safety.
Duties & Responsibilities
– INSPECTION OF UNIVERSITY CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS
Projects may be small remodels to large new construction:
Perform onsite inspection and review reports & testing results for
conformance with applicable codes, standards and intent of the
project design.
Work with Code Compliance & Fire Safety and project team to
determine which inspections should be performed by University staff
versus a testing lab or inspection agency.
Review permit and/or contract documents (plans & specifications)
prior to conducting inspections to determine the applicable codes,
standards, and University Facilities Standards.
Review & provide codes and standards related written feedback on
construction submittals, requests for information (RFIs), requests
for proposals (RFPs), and change orders (COs).
Provide inspections for review for conformance with University
Facilities Standards, or approved variances.
Use and communicate within university project management software.
Coordinate code required & routine inspections, walk-through, for
self and other members of the C&I team.
Attend select design review, or construction meetings, as required.
Maintain inspection project documentation in a readily accessible
location by other team members, including but not limited to field
notes, photographs, logs, construction submittal reviews,
checklists, etc.
Maintain working relationship with Consultants, Contractors, Project
Managers, Construction Services and In-house trades.
Perform other inspection duties and responsibilities as assigned.

– SUPPORT TO OTHER UNITS & OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
Research codes, manuals and standards, drawings and specifications,
to answer questions and assist F&S personnel in making decisions for
construction details and methods.
Attend Work-Intake-Board meetings to vet recent AiM work orders and
contractor proposal submissions in the My.FS portal, as needed.
Provide assistance with commissioning activities, as needed.
Performing assignments as requested by the Associate Director of
Engineering Services.
Perform other duties in support of Lead Inspectors and/or Associate
Director(s) of Code Compliance & Fire Safety.
– DESIGN REVIEW
Perform design phase and/or permit review of construction documents.
Provide written comments and document potential code issues.
Recommend changes in construction documents based on knowledge of
University operations and maintenance methods and better code
compliance.
Meet with other university reviewers, project managers/coordinators,
Professional Services Consultants (PSCs), In-House designers,
Users, Department Heads, Researchers, Professors, etc., to discuss
proposed changes during construction.
Provide technical review/authoring and advising on University
Facilities Standards.

– CONTINUING EDUCATION
Attend c ntinuing education courses, self-study courses and seminars
to learn about the codes, standards and building inspection
techniques to initially obtain certification(s).
Attend continuing education to maintain certification(s).
Learn new technical skills for inspection, documentation, and
communications.
Provide assessment of new technologies, equipment and systems to
evaluate applicability to our projects and University Facilities
Standards.
Maintain knowledge in current building codes, University Facilities
Standards, State and Federal regulations, and energy codes needed to
adequately meet the needs of the Commissioning & Inspection team.
