The Chiefs position is an integral part of the Senior Leadership Team for the city. The ideal candidate will be a person who approaches their career through the lens of serving the public and supporting the teams value statement. Rhome is a growing community and our Chief works closely with multiple agencies, the county, private developers, residents, businesses, and other stakeholders who interact with the community. Our current chief has created a team of servant leaders, brought professionalism to the force, and made several improvements that we will continue to build on over the next several years.

– Representing the city in law enforcement matters and other areas of responsibility.
– Provides leadership to police personnel and for police functions, including patrol, traffic control and enforcement, traffic accident investigation, crime prevention, evidence room, criminal investigation, and community involvement.
– Implements goals and objectives that support the work of the City Council and City Administrator.
– Interacts and supports the City Administrator, Municipal Court, City Secretary and all other departments – Confers with residents and stakeholders relative to law enforcement issues – Develops and implements innovative municipal policing practices
– Represents the city at official functions and with citizen groups, public officials, outside agencies; serves as liaison between the department and other agencies.
– Prepares long-range plans for the department, including specific proposals for service delivery and any new programs needed for the city
– Assists and/or submits grant proposals to help supplement the budget needs of the team
– Serve on task forces/committees and works with the Senior Leadership Team on strategic planning and performance measures for the department.
– Emulates and promotes professional conduct that is reflective of the citys values, including building a team that exhibits a positive environment, creativity, commitment, humble, accountable, engaged, etc.
– Provides Council with updates on agenda items, proposals, budget discussions or other items as needed.
– Prepares a variety of written reports, correspondence, statistical and financial reports as required by the city or State.
– Constructs the annual budget for the department and monitors monthly expenditures to ensure compliance with authorized financials. Prepares forecasts for service delivery needs, staffing levels, and other budget impacts.
– Ultimately responsible for open records requests, working with the administrative assistant, submitted to the police department.
EXPERIENCE AND LICENSING
? Bachelors degree with coursework in criminology, law enforcement, social science, public administration or closely related field.
? Graduate of senior policing leadership development course (FBI National Academy, Bill Blackwood Leadership Command College, Dallas Leadership Series, etc.)
? Ten (10) years of progressively responsible police management, including five (5) years at the rank of sergeant or above (for larger agencies); Preferably prior Police Chief role or responsibilities.
