MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Leadership

– Ability to lead projects.
– Ability to perform special projects with little to no supervision.
– Monitors and orders monthly supplies.
– Provides leadership within a group of workers and serves as a liaison for communication between the custodial group and the supervisor.
– Ability to put work orders in the work order system.
– Ability to process payroll.
– Knowledge of processes and documentation; first injury reports, absent from duty forms etc.

Cleaning

– Implement and monitor a cleaning schedule that includes cleaning of floors, chalkboards,wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment, and restrooms as assigned.
– Comply with local laws and procedures for storage and disposal of trash.
– Assist in maintaining an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment and request additional supplies as needed.
– Empty outside trash containers.

Maintenance and Repair

– Assist with lunchroom set up, including arranging tables and chairs.
– Make minor building repairs as needed and report major repair needs to principal or designated campus staff.
– Replace light bulbs and ceiling tiles as needed. Move furniture or equipment within building as directed by principal.
– Assist in setting up facilities for special events.

Safety

– Follow established procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding facilities; check daily to ensure that appropriate exit doors are open, and all panic bolts are working properly during hours of building occupancy as scheduled by the campus principal.
– Open the building each school day; check for graffiti; cover or remove graffiti before students arrive.
– Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency and report any issues to supervisor; operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
– Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
– Report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.

Policy, Reports, and Law Maintain confidentiality.

– Accurately report work hours using the time clock to report start and end times.
– Utilize effective communication skills; ensure that all interactions are supportive, courteous, and respectful.
– Pursue Professional Development activities; ensure that Professional Development activities are aligned with District goals and initiatives and current professional research.
– Comply with all policies, operating procedures, legal requirements, and verbal and written directives.
– Comply with the Professional Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators.
– Follow District safety protocols and emergency procedures.
– Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification: High school diploma or GED; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience: One (1) year of custodial experience (school district preferred)
Other: Must be 18 years of age or older
SPECIAL KNOWLEGDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

– Ability to read, understand, and communicate instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures in English Knowledge of minor repair techniques
– Ability to operate cleaning equipment, i.e. high speed buffer and move heavy objects
– Ability to properly handle cleaning supplies
– Ability to work evenings and weekends
– Ability to respond to emergency situations in a timely manner
– Ability to make simple calculations and measurements when mixing solutions
– Ability to use and train on all equipment
– Effective communication and interpersonal skills with students, staff and visitors

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES: None
MENTAL/PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:
Tools/Equipment Used: Buffer, stripper, burnisher, wet and dry vacuum cleaner, automatic floor machines, shampoo r, dollies, ladders; small hand tools; small power tools.
Posture:
Frequent standing; kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
Motion:
Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, reaching, and overhead reaching
Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis
Environment:

– Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces;
– frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials;
– regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours Work to be completed on-site from assigned school or building
– Regular exposure to noise and computer monitors No remote work

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress work; prolonged or irregular hours
