Transportation Engineer I:Performs transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development anddesign, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federaland state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials andprivate entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.Transportation Engineer II:Performs complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project developmentand design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicablefederal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officialsand private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however all unusual issues arereferred to the supervisor.Transportation Engineer III:Performs advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning,project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliancewith applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact withgovernmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet setobjectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.Transportation Engineer IV:Performs highly advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning,project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliancewith applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact withgovernmental officials and private entEssential Duties:Transportation Engineer I:Answers technical and policy questions related to bridge inspection and maintains bridge inspection data; analyzes data and provides summaries.Assists in recommending major maintenance and betterment programs to the district staffAssists in reviewing shop drawings prepared by fabricators for bridges and related structuresAssists with design, computer operators and plan preparationAssists with the development of design and project development reports, surveys, and correspondenceDesigns moderately complex bridge projects and performs specialized designDevelops and/or reviews engineering related documents, correspondence, reports and remediation plansDrives/travels to work/project locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and to provide technical supportEnsures compliance with National Bridge Inspection StandardsInspects structures for impact damage and/or construction problems and may design emergency shoring to prevent collapse of damaged structures.Recommends bridge replacement, bridge rehabilitation and repair of damaged bridges.Schedules, assigns and oversees bridge inspection activitiesPerforms other job responsibilities as assigned.Transportation Engineer II:The above and:Assists districts with bridge inspection-related mattersCoordinates fracture critical, underwater or off-system bridge inspection programsReviews shop drawings prepared by fabricators for bridges and related structuresAnswers technical and policy questions related to bridge inspection and maintains bridge inspection data, analyzes data and provides summariesAssists in recommending major maintenance and betterment programs to the district staffCoordinates with local officials on critical findings involving structures which are not under state jurisdictions to have them posted, repaired or closed to the traveling public,Designs complex bridge projects and performs specialized designMay serve as a lead worker a d the related tasksPerforms other job responsibilities as assigned.Transportation Engineer III:The above and:Designs highly complex bridge projects and performs specialized deign.Performs advanced and complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contractsPerforms highly complex structural analysis of bridge designsPerforms complex hydrologic and hydraulic analysis of structures over waterways and summarizes the analysis in reportAssists districts with bridge inspection-related matersCoordinates and leads field inspection groups in the identification of properties for right-of-way acquisitionPerforms other job responsibilities as assignedTransportation Engineer IV:The above and:Conducts final inspections on completed construction projectsPerforms highly advanced and complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches plans,specifications, estimates and contractsPerforms, reviews, and monitors detailed investigations, data collection, analyses and coordination of bridge related research and recommends cost effective project level design for new, rehabilitated and reconstructed bridgesRecommends prioritization of bridge replacement, bridge rehabilitation and repair of damaged bridgesServes as a project manager overseeing consultants performing advanced and complex engineering work.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned
