The Idaho Division of Veterans Services (IDVS) is seeking a compassionate and motivated individual to fill the role of Registered Nurse Senior at our Lewiston Veterans Home. The ideal candidate for this position will supervise nursing staff and ensures standards and quality management are met. The incumbent will also provide consultation and act as a liaison with staff and health care providers.

Responsibilities:

Function as 24-hour supervisor in a long-term care facility.

Participates in multi-disciplinary staffing and coordinates nursing service activities with other health-related, therapeutic and support services.

Selects, develops, and evaluates staff. Orients staff on institution/unit policies and procedures and schedules nursing staff to ensure 24-hour coverage.

Provides professional nursing care, determines and coordinates appropriate consultations, and delegates routine nursing tasks to staff.

Enforces standards of nursing practice and recommends unit and institution policies and procedures.

Ensures completion of required nursing records. Counsels with relatives regarding residents health, status, and care provided, and explains risks and benefits of patient treatment regimes.

Minimum Qualifications:

Licensed as a Professional or Registered Nurse in Idaho as defined by Idaho Code 54-1408 or state licensure as a Registered Nurse pursuant to the Nurse Licensure Compact, Idaho Code 54-1418, in one of the following compact states: Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, or Wisconsin. Good knowledge of supervisory practices.

Experience: Assessing nursing practices for compliance with policies and procedures and recommending appropriate actions

Experience: providing wound care to patients.

MQ Specialties: Some positions require experience: making oral presentations before groups; providing senior level nursing services in public or home health, hospital or institution; or working in a long-term care facility with the Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) process.
