General Description
The RN/LPN will work under the direction of the District School Nurse. The primary responsibility for the RN/LPN is assisting the RN/LPN in implementing school-based health services, assumes delegation of nursing tasks to meet students unique health needs and respond to medical emergencies when the district RN/LPN are not available. The RN/LPN will receive direct and indirect supervision and delegation from the building RN regarding health care issues and receives direction from the building principal on issues other than health. This is a one year only position.

– Valid Washington State License Nursing Credential
– Diabetic Aid Training
– Blood Borne Pathogens Training
– Valid CPR/First Aid Card
– Background or experience in the school environment is desirable but not mandatory.
– Favorable WSP/FBI fingerprint background check required.
Minimum Qualification and Responsibilities
– Maintaining health records for students consistent with schools policies, administrative direction, and state and federal requirements.
– Works with other healthcare agencies, Whatcom County Health Department, physicians, emergency response and hospital personnel as needed.
– Act as a resource person for school secretaries and/or office personnel who are responsible for emergency first-aid treatment.
– Demonstrates sensitivity in dealing with students of diverse socio-economic backgrounds, cognitive and physical abilities as well as with students of diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
– Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
– Demonstrates skill in reading, writing, and communicating.
– Creates and communicates protocols with the district health leads.
– Ability to deal with students in a warm and confident manner.
– Ability to understand, follow and carry out oral and written instructions.
– Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and parents.
– Ability to work as a team member in an urgent situation.
– Medication administration (oral, topical, nasal, ear, eye and/or epinephrine via injection).
– Implements specialized care plan which could include health or restroom assistance.
– Providing immediate first aid in case of injury or sudden illness.
– Seizure care
– Cather care and maintenance
– Blood sugar monitoring
– Verifying insulin dosage on pen or pump
– Monitoring and keeping necessary supplies maintained and stocked.
– Filing of care plans and medication orders or other health services related forms or documentation (accurate and timely charting).
– Answering the phone and assisting parents within the scope of the role.
– Assisting in health screenings
– Performs other duties as assigned.
Terms of Employment
– Two days/week; 6 hours/day
– Rate of pay shall be $29.54/hr.
– No benefits are offered for this position.
