Position Details:
Summary of Duties:
As an Assistant Professor, you will be expected to conduct research with primary emphasis centered around sociological-focused topics, including international sport, civic engagement in sport, sustainability and sport, and critical theories in sport sociology. You must be able to teach a broad range of undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of sport sociology, provide service to the university and engage with campus and local communities. The typical contractual load for a tenure-track assistant professor is 40% teaching (two courses per semester), 40% research and 20% service. We are seeking candidates with a focused research agenda and the ability to secure external funding and evidence of past applications to institutional or external grants. Candidates who can demonstrate engagement in interdisciplinary work, foster scholarly connections among current faculty and contribute to diversity, equity and inclusion efforts are especially encouraged to apply. You must be able to demonstrate knowledge and ability to work effectively with individuals and groups with a variety of identities, cultures and backgrounds.
Required Qualifications:
• An earned Ph.D. in Sport Management;
• Evidence of high-quality research with primary emphasis centered around sociological-focused topics, including international sport, civic engagement in sport, sustainability and sport, and critical theories in sport sociology;
• Evidence of publishing first-authored publications in high-quality scholarly journals;
• Demonstrated pursuit of funding (internal institutional grants) and evidence of potential to secure external funding;
• Evidence of delivering high-quality instruction in a classroom setting for undergraduate and graduate students;
• Demonstrated industry experience in sport across one or more sectors (i.e., public, private, non-profit);
• Ability to contribute to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion consistent with the WSU strategic plan (see http://strategicplan.wsu.edu)
Preferred Qualifications:
• Evidence of ability to mentor graduate students;
• Evidence of ability to teach and work with diverse populations;
• Evidence of ability to work collaboratively with other faculty;
• Coaching and athletic background (collegiate and/or professional);
• Ability to cultivate an international network with various sport organizations.

Annual Salary:
$76,000 – $82,000
In accordance with https://app.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=49.58.110 the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidates current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
