What Youll Do
The Intermodal Operations Specialist is responsible for safely performing activities and completing processes that place customer freight for intermodal rail and yard movement according to clients need. This role is a cross-trained position with responsibilities including, but not limited to, yard/lift operations, securement, clerical administrative duties, load plan coordination, customer service, driver assistance, safety leader, terminal operating system knowledge, and remote operations in a fast-paced outdoor environment.
Responsibilities
Work as a member of a team to coordinate and plan the daily workload
Work in a high-paced outdoor environment around moving equipment, vehicles, and trains
Attend or facilitate pre-shift job briefings
Complete pre and post shift cursory inspections of equipment
Operate various lift equipment: overhead cranes, side loaders, reach stackers to unload/load containers and trailers to/from railcars, stacks, ground or chassis
Lifting and lowering containers and trailers from elevated heights safely and efficiently
Ascend and descend railcars
Lifting interbox connectors (IBC)
Ensure that all containers, trailers, and intermodal flatcars are properly secured
Operate utility tractors (UTR) to move equipment to/from locations in the yard, stacks, and railcars
Utilize terminal operating system for yard inventory
In/out-gate over the road (OTR) drivers using a technology device
Utilize Microsoft office applications: Outlook, Work, Excel, PowerPoint
Utilize various class one railroad terminal operating systems to load, operate, set up yard allocations, complete work orders, close out intermodal trains, and various other responsibilities.
Report out key performance metrics to leadership
Develop and sustain relationships with Class one railroads terminal personal
Remote Operations: could include operating overhead gantry cranes from remote workstations, load plan multiple Class 1 terminals and trains, receiving customer service and driver assistance calls from multiple Class 1 railroads
What Youll Need
Required
High School diploma or equivalent intermodal facility experience
Valid driver’s license with a clean motor vehicle record (MVR)
Efficiency and time-management skills
Ability to operate or willingness to learn computer systems required for terminal dynamics
Ability to adjust to changing facility demands as requested by the client’s requirements and commitments due to seasonal variances, disrupted work schedules, and industry needs
Ability/Willing to work outside in all weather conditions
Ability to work in the presence of loud machinery
Experience running and maneuvering hostler equipment in tight spaces
Experience running heavy lift equipment such as: rubber tire gantry cranes, rail mounted gantry cranes, side loaders, and reach stackers
Preferred
Commercial driver’s license (CDL) (not required)
Willingness to work after hour call outs.
Willingness to work any shift
Prior securement experience preferred (not required)

This role requires employees to be on-site during shifts.
