Global Systems Technologies (GST) has an immediate opportunity for a Junior Scientist (contractor) at the Transportation Security Laboratory (TSL). This position is on a currently awarded government contract with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology (S&T) Directorate. Title: Junior Scientist Location: Onsite position in Egg Harbor Township, NJEmployment Category: Regular Full-TimeDescription summary:Performs studies and analyses related to the development of security technologies. Assists in planning and executing experiments/tests related to the science of explosives and weapons detection (i.e., physics, chemistry, or related), including recording and analysis of data. Requires substantial supervision. Contributes to comprehensive technical reports, data reports and other publications. Performs simple tasks with moderate supervision or from detailed DHS procedures. Ability to write project documents with moderate supervision. RequirementsRequired:An associate’s degree from an accredited college or university; specific courses in experimental or applied science (i.e., physics, chemistry, or related)At least eight (8) years of experience in experimental or applied science or experimental design and support; and above average written and oral communications skills.Preferred:A bachelor’s degree in a scientific field (i.e., physics, chemistry) from an accredited college or universityAt least two (2) years of experience in experimental or applied science or experimental design and supportSupplementary Qualifications:Seeking motivated, client-driven, and meticulous candidates with good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.Additional qualifications:Good listening skills.Experience and knowledge in analytical chemistryInstrumental Experience: Knowledge and experience with analytical chromatography techniques (calibration, operation, and routine maintenance of analytical instrumentation including High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Gas Chromatography (GC), and Ion Chromatography (IC). Knowledge and experience with quality control (QC), statistical analysis, and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) preparation.Experience with solution preparation utilizing wet chemistry techniques (dilutions, depositions, extractions) and related tools (use of pipettes, analytical balances).Ability to safely handle hazardous chemicals and explosives.Experience with technical support and technical customer service (preferred).Experience with software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) and tools required to perform job functions. Experience with automated data collection and data analysis. Ability to work independently and in a team-based environment.Experience with current Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and current Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) is a plus.Familiarity with MATLAB, JavaScript, and/or Python is a plus (not required).Additional information:Offers are contingent upon candidates receiving the following (prior to starting employment):The ability to obtain a Security Clearance (at the level of Secret) is required for this position.
