Outside Plant (OSP) Engineer

RJE Telecom is looking for an experienced telecommunication Outside Plant (OSP) Engineer for the Buffalo, NY area. The OSP Engineer is responsible for designing copper/fiber work orders, interacting with customers/developers and municipalities and adhering to budget constraints.
This is a work from home position with field visits in the Buffalo, NY area. Candidate must reside in or have plans to relocate to the Buffalo, NY area.
What youll do…
Plan and prepare drawings for construction of new, and removal or rearrangement of existing, overhead or underground lines, cables, and conduits to obtain optimum and economical utilization of communications facilities
Analyze traffic loads, available and existing lines, and estimates or forecasts of projected traffic to determine new construction or rearrangements and removals required
Select routing of lines and equipment required for work projects
Prepare detailed construction and installation drawings, estimates equipment, labor, and material costs
Initiate work authorization request and submits request with substantiating drawings and documents to management for approval
Locate, sketch and document detailed information of OSP facilities: cables, poles, ground structures, terminals, manholes and equipment
Measure attachment heights, span distances and structure dimensions
Measure distances from existing/proposed OSP (outside plant construction) facilities
Take measurements, field notes, and produce sketches for TCP design
Identify bonding and ground requirements
What youll need to successfully fill this role…
A high school diploma or GED
Advanced knowledge of outside plant design for business-as-usual (BAU)
At least one year copper and fiber optic cable experience
At least one year of surveying and field work experience
At least four years or more of recent on-the-job NDS, AutoCAD and/or MicroStation experience
Able to identify attachments on utility poles (e.g. Conductors, communication lines, and equipment)
Able to read and understand utility maps
Experience with aerial and underground utilities
An understanding of OSP facilities, construction techniques and conduit records
Knowledge of easement, right of way and permit documents
Microsoft office proficiency, and familiar with digital calendars
Effective communication skills
A college degree in Engineering or similar discipline is preferred
