Job Description

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:

1.) Supports and promotes the nursing department functions by following established policies and procedures.

2.) Responsible for managing, directing and supervising all personnel and all operations of the nursing department and facility during the assigned shift.

3.) Designate duties and responsibilities to professional nursing staff and support nursing staff assigned to the shift in a manner that facilitates optimum delivery of care to residents.

4.) Coordinates nursing personnel scheduling for shift. Ensures staffing numbers are adequate for the provision of nursing care. Responsible for replacement staff on following shifts, if the need arises.

5.) Promotes department philosophies and objectives through effective staff communication and education.

6.) Serves as Assigned Supervisor for various nursing department personnel. Conducts employee performance reviews, disciplinary conferences and exit interviews in a timely fashion.

7.) Responsible for staff performance, retention and development of all assigned employees.Seeks direction from the Human Resource Director and DON regarding personnel matters. Takes appropriate action in accordance with personnel policies and procedures.

8.) FOR HERITAGE VILLAGE HEALTH CARE CENTER ONLY: Responds to emergency assessment needs of Upper Campus residents.

9.) Is knowledgeable and able to respond to nursing and building emergencies according to established policy and procedure.

10.) Assesses condition of critically ill residents. Works with, and directs nursing staff in providing care of such residents.

11.) Assesses resident care for assigned shift by direct observation, personal interviews, and completion of assessment audit tools.

12.) Audits staff to ensure accuracy of controlled substance count for shift. May be required to conduct count on unit as necessary.

13.) Accurately and thoroughly completes required reports and documentation in a timely fashion.

SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS:

1.) Licensed currently as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State in good standing. Maintenance of licensure requirements.

2.) Additional education or experience in long-term care nursing. Prefer B.S.N. Degree, but not required.

3.) Previous supervisory experience desirable.

4.) Must be able to meet health assessment requirements, including required testing and health documentation.

5.) Ability to lift over 60 pounds at various times as necessary. Ability to stand, sit, walk, bend, stoop, squat, twist and engage in repetitive motion for extended periods of time.

6.) Computer application skills required.

7.) An effective ability to read, write and speak the English language is required.

8.) Ability to interact appropriately and professionally with staff, residents, vendors, volunteers and the public in person and via the telephone.

9.) Ability to meet deadlines and handle stressful situations.

10.) Satisfactory demonstration of valid driver license with safe driving record.
