Nursing Assistant, PACU (Casual)

UPMC Hamot is hiring a Nursing Assistant to join the PACU!

This position is casual, no weekends or holidays.

Previous patient care experience required.

Title and Salary will be determined based upon education and experience.

Responsibilities:

Provides direct patient care: bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating.

Maintains patient safety and cleanliness: safety checks, cleaning, organizing, changing linens, emptying hampers, clearing hallways.

Manages supplies and equipment: acquiring, distributing, ordering, charging/crediting, setting up, stocking.

Delivers patient nourishments, fills water pitchers, distributes mail.

Performs core nursing tasks: blood glucose, weights, vital signs, I&O, specimen collections, Foley care, ADLs, point of care testing, telemetry monitor application, HAC & PSI prevention, urine specimen collection, restraint management.

Communicates effectively with the healthcare team, receives feedback constructively, identifies learning needs, participates in self-review.

Supports team and department: suggests changes, takes responsibility, reports equipment issues, responds to call lights, passes meal trays, transports patients.

Documents in medical records, completes clerical tasks, complies with safety policies, responds to emergencies, provides companionship/supervision.

Engages in professional development, improves knowledge and skills, performs other duties as assigned.

High school diploma or equivalent.

Successful completion of UPMC nursing assistant or EIC training program.

Knowledge of body mechanics and transfer techniques. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred.

Access to medications is limited to the distribution of the medication to the nurse.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
