Summary:
The Clinical Educator for Professional Development practices within the professional practice model of his/her institution and exhibits Penn Medicines core values in order to promote clinical professional development in alignment with his/her organizations strategic plan. Working from a specialized knowledge base, the Educator provides expert consultation in collaborative partnerships with various stakeholders to design, implement and evaluate educational programs that uphold practice standards, support evidence-based practice, and improve the delivery of high quality, comprehensive, individualized patient-and-family-centered care. The Educator provides leadership to identify the clinical staffs learning needs and respond to these educational needs while considering the effected patient populations, new clinical evidence, and organizational goals and changes both locally within the health system and nationally/globally. The Educator serves as a vital liaison to communicate and negotiate multiple perspectives within his/her organization in a respectful and effective manner to achieve/advocate positive change and delivery of appropriate and ethical care. The ultimate goal is to educate and empower clinical staff to provide quality patient centric care.
The Educator is accountable for cultivating an environment of inquiry and learning that supports the autonomy and accountability of the various clinical roles, excellence in clinical practice, and upholds the strategic goals and values of his/her organization. The Educator includes patient-and-family-centered, culturally competent, and age specific care, as appropriate, throughout the educational programs offered by the department. The Educator is self-directed and purposeful in maintaining current professional knowledge and competence within specialty area and participating in peer review.
Travel to various practice locations required.
Responsibilities:
Create educational programs that employ adult learning principles and varied educational methodologies to address the learning needs of clinical staff and support their professional practice.
Assess learner characteristics, including learning styles and learning needs for program development
Create an effective learning environment
Use creativity and innovation to improve the quality of the learning experience
Implementing plans in safe and timely manner
Coordinate clinical, financial, technical, educational and other resources/systems to implement plans
Implement plans using principles of quality, project or systems management
Teach in and coordinate orientation programs
Evaluate factors such as safety, effectiveness, availability, cost and benefits, efficiencies, opportunities for learners, and impacts on practice
Plan culturally relevant programs that incorporate concepts of multicultural and multigenerational education and demonstrate a sensitivity to ethical, cultural and spiritual inclusion ◦ Implement a variety of teaching strategies tailored to the learners’ characteristics, learning needs, and outcome objectives
Use educational methodologies to enhance critical thinking
Forge relationships with stakeholders at various levels and in various disciplines as needed to plan and develop educational programs that drive change and promote excellence. ◦ Plan and implement programs and projects using innovation and creativity ◦ Serve as a clinical resource for individuals and groups of staff. ◦ Provide clinical and educational support for new projects and initiatives ◦ Consistently use planning methodologies when implementing, facilitating, and evaluating various programs and projects ◦ Function in the roles of both teacher and facilitator ◦ Collaboratively develop content with target audience, content expert(s), and other stakeholders
Evaluate the impact of educational programs on educational and organizational outcomes.

Credentials:
Active RN license for PA and NJ (Required)
Active BCLS certification (Required)
Active drivers license for state of residence (Required)
Certification as a Professional Development Specialist (Preferred)
Specialty Certification in Nursing (Preferred)
Education or Equivalent Experience:
Bachelors Degree Nursing And 5 years experience in nursing (Required)
2 years experience in ambulatory setting (Preferred)
Masters Degree Nursing (Preferred)
