Biomedical Engineer (Part-Time)

Position Objective: Provide services as a Biomedical Engineer in support of the overall functions of the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) within the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Under this task order, the individual will independently provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the Laboratory of Brain and Cognition (LBC).
The purpose of this position is to support research inside the Laboratory of Brain and Cognition (LBC) within the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). This will include the use of various research methodologies, teaching/mentoring others within NIMH on the use of cognitive testing devices and maintaining instrumentation in support of research activities in the LBC.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Make design changes to and maintain existing instrumentation, medical devices, and pneumatic-driven stimulation devices used in the clinical and the MRI environments 2
Collaborate with staff on projects to understand the way neuronal activity is represented in the brain.
Work with staff to conceptualize, design, and execute experiments.
Provide technical oversight of the computing infrastructure used by the laboratory for data analysis. 1
Perform calibration and quality assurance on laboratory devices, such as eye-trackers, gustometers and stimulus response devices used for patient testing.
Analyze, modify, install, and evaluate laboratory research devices. 3
Interface with group members in order to facilitate their ongoing neuroimaging research
Attend laboratory meetings to provide information and updates to scientific devices
Train new users in equipment use.
Provide technical expertise in the use of special devices and equipment, enhancing the productivity or success of the laboratory research.
Work products and documents related to designing, modifying or repairing laboratory devices. – Daily
Work products and documents related to improving or modifying computing infrastructure. – Daily
Work products and documents related to interfacing with group members to facilitate the running of experiments. – Daily
Work products and documents related to attending bi-weekly lab meetings to present updates to equipment and computing infrastructure. – Daily
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering
MRI experience
Eye tracking experience
Minimum Qualifications:
Excellent interpersonal, analytical, organizational and time management skills.
