Position Summary: The Endoscopy Head Nurse (EHN) is responsible for managing the individualized patient care by promoting and restoring patients health through the nursing process; collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members; providing physical and psychological support to patients, friends, and families; and supervising assigned team members. Administers conscious sedation medication to Endoscopy patients per organizational policy and procedures. Provides technical assistance to the physician during the Endoscopic procedure and ensures the Endoscopic suite is adequately prepared for the procedure. Monitors PAR levels of the Endoscopy equipment and supplies. Cleans and sterilizes the Endoscopic scopes and equipment as needed. On-Call rotation is required.

The Endoscopy Head Nurse (EHN):

The EHN is responsible for; including but not limited to the endoscopy room set-up, scheduling, staffing, purchasing equipment, charge capture, patient, and physician satisfaction.

Call-ins in the absence of leader.

Time accounting and payroll in the absence of the leader.

Monitor staff levels and understand when to reduce the use of staff or ask for additional staff in the absence of leader.

Check inventory/order supplies.

Monitor linen delivery and pick-up.

Check stock for expired supplies and drugs.

The EHN will ensure that the endoscopy department operations and team members are knowledgeable of and in compliance with applicable regulatory, licensing, and accrediting agency standards and applicable state and federal laws.

Collaborate with Digestive Health leadership team.

Participates on the peer interview team for the department and makes recommendations concerning hiring decisions.

Participates in peer review for initial and annual clinical competencies for all practice staff.

Coordinates clinical portion of orientation for all new practice associates.

Coordinates clinical staff in-services.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:

– Requires knowledge of organization and operation of a patient care unit and knowledge of nursing care techniques and methods generally acquired through three to five years of experience as a professional nurse with progressively more Charge Nurse responsibility/experience in appropriate specialty area.

– Knowledge of organization and operation of Endoscopic (Endo) Services preferred.

– Leadership experience in nursing preferred.

Education:

– Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required. Individuals without a BSN degree must obtain within four (4) years of transfer or three (3) years of employment. Proof of enrollment must be presented within 60 days.

Licensure/Certification:

– Current and in good standing RN Licensure with South Carolina Board of Nursing.

– American Heart Association Healthcare provider course with Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required to be initially completed with the TH Organizational Development Office within 30 calendar days of hire date (exceptions to obtain certification from a provider other than the TH Organizational Development Office are approved by TH Organizational development on a case by case basis). BLS Recertification is required every two years.

– ACLS required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

– Proficiency with PC’s and Microsoft office software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook and prior Electronic Medical Record experience preferred.

- Evidence of effective leadership, interpersonal skills, consensus and team building skills required.

- A nalytical and operational problem solving/decision making skills with the ability to be innovative is required.

– The ability to be self-motivated to complete organizational projects and goals is required.

– Knowledge of LEAN and Six Sigma principles is preferred.

– Valid and in good standing driver’s license and personal transportation to be able to travel to multiple TH clinical sites required.

Physical Requirements: Medium Physical Agility Test Rating Required (PAT):

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently (activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) required to stand, sit, and walk; occasionally (activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) to use hands, fingers; and frequently to talk or hear. The employee must exert 20 to 35 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 15 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
