General Description

Responsible for leading a designated targeted industry sectors team and geographic territory. The

Business Development Manager

will work directly with assigned industries and counties. They will become specialists in their specific areas by attending industry meetings, visiting companies, understanding industry and individual employer needs and managing the effective delivery of workforce solutions. They shall act as a leader, convener and problem solver to identify and meet targeted industry workforce development needs by combining the services of the One Stops, the region, and area educational partners.

Essential Job Functions

Provides workforce services to all employers, regardless of size, industry, or county; however provide intensive services to employers within specific geography and specific sectors throughout the local area, region, and state.

Monitors industry statistics and follows trends in employment and economic development related to respective targeted industries.

Assists economic development agencies in assigned counties by sharing information obtained through existing business contacts. Conducts joint visits with the EDC staff for existing, potential, and new businesses. Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with representative of partner organizations (Economic Development, Educational Institutions, State Agencies, Chamber, etc.)

Conducts regular employer outreach meetings with targeted industries. Identifies and addresses workforce development needs of individual companies, as well as industry sectors, related to workforce planning, recruitment, retention, training, and other human resource needs.

Assists employers and employees involved in downsizing or layoffs.

Identifies employee development activities for area recruiting, secondary and post-secondary talent recruitment, and expansion of industry/education collaborations.

Learns business needs by developing relationships, touring companies, and conducting one-on-one meetings with management. Identifies specific needs and develops targeted workforce solution proposals utilizing the expertise of the Recruiters at the Career Centers, marketing support staff, and other team members. Monitors and evaluates the execution and effectiveness of the workforce solutions.

Attends the respective targeted industry committee meetings to stay abreast of industry trends and activities and understands the challenges and needs of the local employers.

Updates employers on new services and incentives.

Consults with management and other team members regarding key group interests, trends, concerns, and provides advice on business decisions. Participates in strategic planning meetings with partner organizations by providing necessary data.

Attends training for economic development, labor market information, and HR issues. Identifies related training needs for One Stop staff, assists in developing and providing training to improve services to area employers. Participates in job fairs, promotional activities, and trade shows to market CSNF.

Meet with key staff to develop a network of sector expertise within the local organization.

Assists in developing and executing strategic business development campaigns which may include targeted outreach visits, speaking engagements, telephone campaign, email, and direct mail marketing and sponsored events.
