This is an open position with Ohio Edison, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp [OE].
Position Summary:
The Distribution Designer is responsible for the designed construction, relocation, and new business work for the Distribution function of the Company. The position leverages customer service, software use, and learned expertise in design standards and regulatory requirements. It acts as a regular point of contact for internal and external customers through the lifetime of various projects and tasks.

Responsibilities:
Demonstrate and direct a solid commitment to all aspects of safety.
Utilize FirstEnergy construction standards and engineering practices to complete single- and 3-phase overhead and underground designs to serve residential, commercial, and industrial requests.
Support job progress through customer contacts, field work, job packages, and job closeout functions including material review and paperwork verification.
Facilitate billing functions for line extension and applicable relocation work, including billing recommendations in non-routine scenarios.
Facilitate completion of outage management system (OMS) follow-up requests, inspection and maintenance repairs, streetlight installation and replacement, claims, Transmission priority repairs, aerial patrol findings, and Job & Contracting (J&C) projects.
Acquire permits related to railroad, Department of Transportation, and municipality road right-of-way.
Collaborate with customers to secure and document easements for line extensions and highway relocation work.
Update and maintain compliant records to support technical reports, metrics, and information systems.
Travel to various off-site locations as required, including FirstEnergy offices, training facilities, and customer sites.
Provide ongoing assistance during emergencies and storm-related activities.
Attend all required regulatory training.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Include:
Associate degree in a technical discipline, and/or a minimum 3-6 years of related design experience is required.
Ability to pass the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Technician Occupations Selection System (TECH) employment test.
Strong communication skills including the ability to guide decision-making or consensus, negotiate acceptable outcomes, and diffuse challenging situations.
Willingness to seek guidance and advice to fill gaps in understanding.
Strong self-motivation and multi-tasking skills, including the ability to manage shifting priorities.
Ability to interpret complex written and visual information, such as procedures, manuals, drawings, and schematics.
