Water Resources Engineer – Senior Level (Hybrid)

Job Description: Summary: This position will involve working on projects with a diverse team of engineers and scientists, completing water resources/civil engineering and related technical assignments. Project work may include hydrologic analysis related to stormwater planning and flood control; hydraulic analysis and design related to storm sewer infrastructure, rivers, streams, conveyances, dams, and other hydraulic structures; preparation of technical reports, plans, and specifications; and working with clients, permitting agencies, and public officials. Responsibilities may also include teaching and mentoring staff and building client relationships. The work may involve short-term, out-of-town assignments either in the field or in another office. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors degree in civil/environmental engineering with emphasis on water resources 10 years of water resources engineering experience with a focus on hydrology and hydraulics Experience with water resources challenges including precipitation and flooding data analysis; urban and rural hydrologic analysis; storm sewer analysis and design; open channel flow analysis; hydraulic structures; dam break analysis; dam and levee analysis and design; reservoir operations Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling approaches and commonly used software Willingness to work cooperatively with project team members in a high-energy working environment that encourages self-initiative Experience with staff mentoring, client relationship building, and business development Flexible working style as required to meet deadlines and client needs Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members and clients Experience with staff mentoring Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future Possession of a valid drivers license and acceptable driving record Preferred Qualifications: Masters degree or PhD in civil or environmental engineering with a focus on hydrology and hydraulics 10 or more years of water resources engineering experience with a focus on hydrology and hydraulics Experience with water resources challenges including pipe flow analysis; stormwater quality and green stormwater infrastructure design; bank stabilization and stream restoration Professional engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within 5 years Experience with water rights issues Experience with providing work direction to others at a task- or project-level Experience with client relationship building and business development Working knowledge of and/or experience with water quality projects Experience with business development and client management Working knowledge of GIS and CADD software Experience with site development design and plans and specifications Construction observation, fieldwork, and surveying experience A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position can be based out of Barrs Duluth, Minnesota, office. NOTE: Must be able to work in locations that may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and conditions typical of industrial facilities. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients. An OSHA-mandated physical exam may be required.
