Our Product Support and Logistics Division (PSLD) is one of the most innovative divisions within Caterpillar. In PSLD, as within all of Caterpillar, our priority is our customers and helping them build a better world. We touch nearly every element of the services value stream from procurement to design and manufacturing to distribution. PSLD is responsible for Aftermarket Parts Distribution of Cat Parts, Integrated Logistics, segment Procurement and the design and manufacture of Wear Components (Undercarriage and GET) and Maintenance Components (Seals, Tubes & Hardware, Hose & Couplings, Fluids and Filters).

The Reliability & Maintenance Operations Manager you will participate in the design, development, implementation and troubleshooting of robotic industrial operations systems. The Reliability & Maintenance Operations Manager will lead multiple teams in all phases of complex automation projects involving multiple functions, organizations, products, or value chains.

What You Will Do:

Debugging and troubleshooting robotic systems; automating all the aspects of robotics processes to ensure effective operations.

Fixing and enhancing application features and optimizing application systems to support business requirements.

Gathering, analyzing and documenting end user requirements to define the function of robotic systems.

Transfers knowledge and expertise of industrial automation solutions for the entire organization.

Provides leadership and direction to multi-function teams to develop and execute strategy.

Ensures projects meet all goal requirements for cost, budget, and customer satisfaction.

Manage change and take active leadership in timely decision making.

Monitors progress of projects, discusses challenges with affected areas, assures appropriate personnel are informed of opportunities for improvement and steps are in place to meet schedules.

Depending on nature of issue, expected to recommend possible solutions and alternatives.

Assists with developing automation project scope to address business challenges and opportunities.

Coordinating resources across operations, purchasing, engineering, IT, and vendors.

Overseeing project progress and costs; communicating status with stakeholders and participating functional areas; addressing and resolving problems.

Direct project staffing; motivating and developing project team and team members.

Other duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time-to-time.

What You Have (Basic Requirements):

Planning: Tactical & Strategic: Knowledge of effective planning techniques and ability to contribute to operational (short term), tactical (1-2 years) and strategic (3-5 years) planning in support of the overall business plan.

Develops, refines, and communicates tactical plans for own responsibilities.

Provides the right level of detail as input for strategic plan development.

Demonstrates the value and necessity of linking tactical plans to overall strategic plan.

Ensures attention to the detail and dependencies of existing departmental-level plans.

Plans for allocation of resources in line with unit goals, technical and business objectives.

Ensures the planning process is integrated with the overall business plan.

Project Administration: Knowledge of project administration best practices and ability to use organizational strategies, practices and tools for administering projects.

Reports dependencies, conflicts, and completion date status to project management team.

Develops cost-benefit analysis; tracks and reviews actual costs vs. planned.

Helps others to develop in-depth knowledge of project administration software.

Implements planned and ad-hoc communications to and from affected parties.

Monitors progress and generates project variance analysis reports.

Makes sure project problems are surfaced and reported to appropriate project team members.

Quality Management: Knowledge of quality management methods, tools, and techniques and ability to create and support an environment that meets the quality goals of the organization.

Interprets results of quantitative and statistical tools and explains results to others.

Communicates key benefits of a quality management process.

Conducts and directs quality reviews.

Develops expertise in quality assurance tools, techniques, and standards.

Develops quality assurance processes based on Six Sigma, ISO 9000 or Baldrige principles.

Develops programs for motivating employees to meet or exceed quality goals.

Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.

Vendor/Supplier Management: Knowledge of external provider management processes and ability to effectively manage the business relationship with external providers (e.g., vendors, service providers, contractors, consultants, and suppliers).

Leads a team in managing collaborative relationships with multiple vendors or suppliers.

Provides comprehensive knowledge of industry practices with using external or third parties.

Evaluates vendor or suppliers plans and directions and potential impact on the organization.

Develops rationale and best practices for use of external vendor/supplier resources.

Shares experiences with managing and integrating products and services from multiple vendors or suppliers.

Consults on service provider problems and corrects or terminates as appropriate.

Industrial Automation/Automatic Control: Knowledge of various industrial automatic control systems, processes and methodologies in a manufacturing environment; ability to design, implement and maintain automatic production systems/processes to improve productivity and efficiency, as well as minimize human intervention.

Leads the industrial automation systems/processes architecture and commissioning for ones own organization.

Establishes industrial automation design and implementation strategies, standards, processes and best practices.

Leads discussions on the future development and directions of industrial automation technologies.

Monitors industry marketplace and benchmarking of Industrial Automation/Automatic Control; designs case studies.

Creates performance metrics and feedback mechanisms to evaluate and optimize industrial automation systems/processes.

Consults on the industrial automation solutions for the entire manufacturing organization.

Operations Standards, Procedures & Policies: Knowledge of organizational standards, procedures and policies in manufacturing activities; ability to plan, guide, and monitor manufacturing processes for compliance.

Monitors vendor and industry trends and directions; predicts and prepares for impact on organization.

Leads the definition of standards for manufacturing platforms and infrastructure.

Establishes policies and standards for all areas of manufacturing.

Leads the development of technical architecture and standards.

Evaluates and promotes industry standards, including open standards and their impact on organization.

Advises others in defining philosophy and principles for global manufacturing architecture.

Robotics/Computer Controlled Machinery: Knowledge of robotics technologies and computer-controlled machinery; ability to implement and operate robotics and computer-controlled machinery in an automated manufacturing environment.

Advocates for the development of robotics technologies associated with manufacturing.

Leads the selection process for vendors, hardware, and maintenance programs.

Leverages robotics investment across the organization.

Oversees the impact of robotics on costs, efficiency, quality, and other factors.

Establishes best practices to integrate humans and robots, measure and monitor their performance.

Leads the development of long-range automation plans; projects impact on organization.

What Will Set You Apart (Preferred Qualifications):

Bachelor’s degree in Operations, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or related field.

Previous experience with manufacturing or logistics automation applications.

Previous experience with warehouse technology design and implementation.

Prior experience with autonomous vehicles and/or robotics

6 Sigma Black Belt Certification.

Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.
