Surgical Coordinator – Plastic Surgery – Full Time

Position Summary:
Maintains departmental surgical schedules and lists surgical procedures with OR. Prepares necessary paperwork; ensures all necessary documentation is entered into the medical chart; obtains referrals and pre‐certifications required by insurance plans; verifies medical record is in order; arranges history and physicals for surgical patients as needed. Ensures all other necessary surgical paperwork is accurately completed for all surgical patients. Works well with coworkers and adheres to strict confidentiality.
Education, License & Cert:
A candidate must have knowledge of medical terminology and be able to demonstrate command of English language and accepted policies and procedures of organization.
Experience:
Knowledge of how to effectively deal with ill people is required. Pleasant, caring personality an asset.
Essential Functions:
1. Is the liaison between patients, doctors, referring physicians, and hospital staff.
2. Assumes responsibility for scheduling prospective surgical patients, establishing surgery dates, physical exams, pre‐op testing and follow‐up appointments.
3. Prepares patient with information needed before reporting for surgery.
4. Prepares insurance and hospital forms and completes consent forms for surgical procedures.
5. Responsible for required insurance precertification prior to surgery.
6. Obtains and prepares surgical packets using patient information in the medical chart. Forwards patients charts to the hospital admissions office to be utilized in pre‐admission testing.
7. Places phone calls to patients informing them of test results per doctor instruction.
8. Coordinates surgical schedules and lists surgeries with the Operating Room.
9. Will cross cover for front office or scheduling staff.
