Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative
Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative (MEC) is a progressive electric utility, member-owned cooperative serving Southside Virginia. MEC is seeking a motivated individual to fill the position of Accountant in our Chase City Headquarters.
The position is fast paced requiring multi-tasking skills while providing excellent customer service to Cooperative and subsidiary employees both in-person and over the phone. The successful candidate will provide support to the Finance and Accounting Department in paying vendors and compiling accounts payable information by administering effective and efficient processes, completing reports and maintaining all records.
The individual in this position must assist in planning, coordinating, and controlling the functions of accounting services in order to ensure that financial records of the Cooperative and all subsidiaries are kept in conformity with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and RUS requirements, to provide reliable and timely financial reporting and statistical information for effective decision making and control.
Must have the ability to meet and deal tactfully and courteously with Members, other employees, and the general public. Must always treat others respectfully and in a professional manner in support of the Cooperatives strong commitment to outstanding customer service.
Must satisfactorily pass pre-employment and random drug/alcohol screenings, participant in a drug-free workplace and have quality work ethic and safety record.

A bachelors degree in accounting or relevant discipline is required. Three years of experience in accounting procedures is required. Candidates possessing additional years of experience in related fields may substitute for a portion of the educational requirement. A combination of education, training, and experience may be substituted when competency in the role is demonstrated.
