Job Summary

Dominion EnergySouth Carolina (DESC) is seekingcandidates for an Engineering position in the Gas Operations Business Unit. This position will support the Pipeline Safety Management Systems (PSMS) Department with an emphasis in gas pipeline integrity, corrosion control, and cathodic protection responsibilities.

There is one position which will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidates education, experience, knowledge skills, and abilities.

This position will influence the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of transmission and distribution pipelines throughout the company’s natural gas system in South Carolina. This position will involve project management duties for creating and maintaining schedules and budgets of transmission and distribution natural gas projects including:

Pipeline assessments using inline inspections (ILI), external corrosion direct assessments (ECDA), pipeline repair and remediation

Determining the remaining strength and life expectancy of existing pipelines

Analyzing and verifying pipeline material tests and evaluating and minimizing the risks and threats to the integrity of gas pipeline assets.

This engineering position is critical within the department to help ensure DESC maintains safe and reliable pipelines which comply with all federal regulations and the company’s Transmission Integrity Management Program (TIMP). This position will promote a safety culture throughout every level of the organization by continually learning from the past and anticipating the future. This position will report to the Manager of Gas Transmission Pipeline Integrity and will be located in Cayce, SC.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Minimum Requirements (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications):

Engineer I

0-2 years of relevant engineering experience

Engineer II:

3 years of relevant engineering experience.

Engineer III:

5 years of relevant engineering experience.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Engineer I:

Basic knowledge of engineering concepts, fundamentals and theory;

Oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing);

Effective decision making skills;

Computer skills and application of software programs, including Microsoft Office Suites, especially Word and Excel;

Analytical and abstract thinking skills;

Problem solving skills;

Ability to learn and apply AutoCAD Civil 3D skills;

Ability to learn to apply engineering theories and concepts to complex problems;

Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices;

Ability to develop effective planning, project and organization skills;

Ability to develop project management skills and to handle multiple tasks;

Ability to work within a team environment.

Engineer II:

Knowledge and application of engineering theories and principles, concepts, and fundamentals.

Requires developmental experience in a professional engineering position.

Competency in applying engineering principles, fundamental concepts, practices and procedures requiring some evaluation, originality and/or ingenuity to achieve project objectives.

Understands and can apply knowledge of configuration management.

Ability to perform engineering calculations using applicable software programs (e.g. Matlab, Excel, etc.).

Planning, organizational and project management skills.

Ability to develop and exercise leadership skills.

Effective decision making skills.

Effective oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing).

Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems.

Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices.

Equally effective working independently or in a team environment.

Ability to process information quickly and effectively manage multiple tasks.

Engineer III

Full knowledge of engineering theories and principles.

Skilled in use of advanced techniques and modification and extension of theories, precepts and practices of the field and related sciences and disciplines.

Strong leadership skills with proven ability to serve as team project lead.

Provide guidance to less experienced engineers.

Strong oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing).

Strong personal computer skills.

Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems.

Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices.

In depth knowledge of various computer applications, with the ability to manipulate personal computer applications and perform engineering calculations using applicable software programs (e.g. Matlab, Excel, etc.).

Equally effective working independently or in team environment.

Proven decision making skills.

Ability to process information quickly and effectively manage multiple tasks.

Strong planning, organizational and project management skills.

Education Requirements

Required degree (equivalency not accepted in lieu of required degree): Bachelor

Required discipline(s): Engineering

Required Engineering Criteria:

For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met:

Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an ABET accredited engineering program based on the year that the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the countrys own engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the countrys accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or

Possess a 4-year engineering degree from a non-ABET accredited program and a postgraduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

Possess a 4-year degree in Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Engineer-in-Training or Professional Engineer license.
