Location: Mount Pleasant Hospital – Mount Pleasant, SC

Shift: Day shift

Job Summary:

This position will provide a safe and efficient exercise environment for participants in all phases of the Cardiac Rehab program. Duties include exercise demonstration, exercise prescription, EKG and vital sign monitoring, frequent patient interaction and occasional physician interaction.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: BS Physical Education, Exercise Science or related discipline.

Experience: Cardiac Rehab work or a specific Cardiac Rehab internship is preferred. May need to change communication style to deal with patients who have age related limitations with hearing, intellect or vision. Very elderly patients may need personal attention or assistance to ambulate.

Licensure/Certification: Must have a current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Card. ACSM Exercise Specialist, ACLS preferred.

Primary Source Verification: N/A

Knowledge/Skills: Ability to handle multiple patients, monitoring in fast paced environment. EKG recognition. Ability to modify exercises according to patient limitations. Immediate recognition of untoward exercise response.

Other: Positive, motivational attitude required to assist with excellent patient outcomes.

Contacts: Employee will frequently interact with Cardiac patients, family members of patients, coworkers, physicians, general public. Rare to occasional contact with community organizations, general public and vendors.

Work Demands/Environment:

Frequent standing, walking, bending, sitting, reaching crouching, stooping, stretching. Frequent lifting/moving equipment or assisting patients. Intermittent lifting, moving or carrying, pushing or pulling up to 50 lbs. Frequent use of finger/hand dexterity. Constant reaching with hands/arms. Frequently demonstrates a variety of exercises including treadmill walking, bicycling, rowing, bending, stooping and stretching. Frequent talking or hearing. Corrected hearing and vision to normal range. Possible risk of exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue, infectious materials, communicable diseases and/or other conditions common to a healthcare environment. Intermittent exposure to risk of exposure to blood-borne pathogens. Work is primarily conducted in the Cardiac Rehabilitation facility.
