Summary
This opportunity resides with Cyber & Electronic Warfare, Weapon Systems & Space, a business group within HII’s Mission Technologies division. HII works within the weapon systems communities to defend our nation’s interests at home and abroad. Our deep expertise in hardware and software development, prototyping, testing, and production enables us to support critical missions at scale for federal agency partners.
HII has a need for a Systems Engineer to stand up and manage systems engineering processes for a new project. The position involves providing systems engineering support to the design, fabrication, testing/acceptance and delivery of systems, structures, components, and software.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Requires a deep understanding of requirements development, architecture definition/decomposition, testing philosophies/methodologies, and verification coverage.
Ensure conversion of customer and/or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
Perform technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, evaluates alternatives including cost and risk, supportability, and analyses for total systems.
Translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
Communicate task status with clarity and brevity.
Identify, articulate, and manage risks.
Manage internal and external relationships.
Create and maintain various reports.
Minimum Qualifications
5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.
Experience authoring a systems engineering management plan.
Experience in requirements development and management.
Ability to create verification and validation criteria.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Self-motivated with strong work-ethic.
Experience working within government contracts.
Technical and problem-solving intuition.
Curiosity and ability to work comfortably with complexity.
Ability to anticipate and mitigate programmatic implications of system challenges .
Must be able to communicate effectively with government stakeholders, company leadership, and technical subject matter experts in a wide range of disciplines.
Clearance: Must be able to obtain a SECRET security clearance.
Preferred Requirements
Experience with easeRequirements for Jira (R4J) or equivalent web-based requirements management tool such as Jama, Doors NextGen, etc., including administration side.
Experience with Open Systems Architectures.
Experience managing tasks within budgets.
Master’s degree in systems engineering.
Configuration management/change control.
Experience in risk management including risk register development.
Experience with hardware and software systems engineering.
Experience working within Department of Defense contracts.
Experience in modeling and simulations to create a ‘digital twin’.
Clearance: Active SECRET security clearance.
Physical Requirements
Office, industrial, environment.
Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances.
Lifting and moving materials may be required.
