Job Description – Landfill Railyard Supervisor

Interstate Waste Services is one of the largest and fastest growing private sanitation companies in the country! We service customers in southern New York State, New York City, New Jersey, and Connecticut. We also have transfer stations and a Landfill in Ohio.

Job Highlights

The Landfill Railyard Supervisor will manage the daily operation of the railyard. The manager will directly lead and coordinate duties and schedules for Equipment Operators, Conductors, and Engineers. The position will also monitor all incoming/outgoing materials daily

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

Manage the day-to-day operations in the railyard to ensure the waste is efficiently moved from the railyard to the landfill working face.

Ensure all railcar switching, coupling, and moving occurs in a safe and productive manner.

Report to and communicate with Director of Operations on opportunities to distinguish trends and recognize problems and implement plan of action.

Inspect and evaluate all aspects of the rail in the railyard and document any issues found. Ability to troubleshoot issues and deduct the best possible solutions to remedy any issues.

Follows and administers company safety programs by conducting daily, weekly, and monthly safety meetings, facility inspections, and ensuring compliance to all OSHA, MSHA, and FRA regulations.

Administrative tasks including the processing of employee timesheets, and employee requests including vacation days, personal days, sick days and other leaves via HRIS.

Work collaboratively with the other supervisors/managers to complete the daily work activities in an effective and timely manner.

Work cooperatively with maintenance to ensure PMs are completed as scheduled, and that issues with equipment are reported in a timely manner

Utilize proprietary software to track the movement of railcars into and out of the railyard.

Establish, monitor, and report out on safety, quality, and productivity key performance indicators

Trains and coaches’ employees on general safety policies, tasks associated with conducting and engineering a locomotive, heavy equipment operation, and all related rail activities.

Qualifications

Required experience and skills

5 years’ experience in related field

Experience in the sanitation industry is strongly preferred

Knowledge of locomotive operation rail yard operation, and conducting is required

Knowledge of heavy equipment operation is strongly preferred

Completion of relevant undergraduate degree or certificate program

Basic mechanical and technology skills

Must have demonstrated leadership, problem solving and organizational skills and ability to maintain and promote a teamwork environment

Ability to lift up to 50lbs

Must be able to walk around the facility
