Summary:
Provides support to healthcare professionals, ensuring smooth operations in the clinic, and delivering quality patient care. This position requires a combination of administrative and clinical tasks.
Principal Functional Responsibilities:
Clinical Duties: Assist healthcare providers with patient examinations and procedures. Take and record vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and weight. Prepare patients for examinations and explain procedures. Administer injections, medications, and basic first aid as directed by the healthcare provider. Perform basic laboratory tests and handle specimens. Sterilize medical instruments, equipment. Clean exam rooms.
Administrative Duties: Schedule appointments and manage patient records. Update and maintain electronic health records (EHRs). Handle billing and coding procedures. Coordinate hospital or laboratory admissions. Answer phone calls, greet patients, and manage front-desk activities. Assist with insurance verification and processing.
Patient Education: Provide patients with information about medications, procedures, and follow-up care. Instruct patients on self-administration of medications. Offer guidance on lifestyle changes, dietary recommendations, and preventive care.
Collaboration: Communicate effectively with healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, and administrative staff. Collaborate with other medical assistants to ensure efficient workflow.
Compliance and Quality Assurance: Adhere to all relevant regulations, including HIPAA . Follow infection control protocols. Assist in maintaining a safe and clean working environment.
Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Completion of a medical assistant training program or equivalent education
• Minimum one year of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant and/or documented evidence of 160-hour externship completed in a medical office.
• Proficiency in MS Office and electronic health records patient management software
• Must possess a current CPR certification and current health records with the appropriate immunizations to work in the health care field (hepatitis B and tuberculosis). Appropriate immunizations will be provided in the event the current health record is not available or is expired
Preferred Qualifications:
• Associates degree
• Certified Medical Assistant
• Experience in an outpatient office, especially a primary care or substance use disorder practice.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to utilize a phone, computer and other office equipment. Must be able to occasionally lift to 25 pounds.
