Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Constructs, maintains and repairs overhead and underground electrical distribution and transmission systems including such things as setting towers/poles, maintaining and repairing overhead distribution or transmission lines, stringing new wire or maintaining old wire, installing and maintaining anchors, installing and maintaining insulators, installing and maintaining transformers, installing and maintaining underground distribution systems, trimming trees and brush, installing and maintaining other equipment including but not limited to; street lights, capacitor banks, transformers, cutouts, cross arms, switches, and insulators.
Works in below grade structures to pull, splice, and connect underground primary and secondary cables and other devices and equipment.
Installs single phase and three phase electric meters.
Installs, maintains, constructs, and replaces de-energized transmission and energized distribution lines and equipment under all weather conditions and at all hours of day or night.
Performs the duties of an Equipment Operator/Groundman through Journey Lineworker.
Ensures work performed in accordance with Utility construction standards and OSHA work rules.
Assumes the duties and responsibilities of Line Foreman in his/her absence as directed.
Assists in training personnel from Equipment Operator/Groundman to Lineworker Class A.
Prepares reports relating to vehicles and construction equipment ensuring all are operating safely and in good repair.
Operates heavy equipment such as bucket trucks, derricks, trenchers and related tools.
Participates in After-hours Service Watch rotation.
Qualifications :
High school education or equivalent required.
A minimum of 6 months as groundsman/operator
Shows familiarity with principles and practices of electric power line construction, maintenance, and substations required.
Strong verbal communication skills necessary in order to deal with a wide range of personalities both inside and outside the organization.
Ability to follow directions in emergency or highly stressful situations.
A valid Indiana driver’s license and CDL required.
