Job Description
This position serves as the Unit Supervisor for the Lake Michigan Unit of the Great Lakes Watersheds Assessment, Restoration, and Management Section. The unit consists of 8 Full Time Employees, which are under the immediate supervision of this position. The unit’s primary responsibilities are to provide monitoring, assessment, and other technical support to the department’s aquatic resource protection and restoration programs for those watersheds located in the Lake Michigan basin; develop total maximum daily loads (TMDLs) for water bodies not meeting water quality standards; manage water quality data; oversee the MiCorps volunteer monitoring program; and issue 401 water quality certifications for hydropower dams. The Unit Supervisor serves on the Section Management Team, deploys unit staff as appropriate to meet division and program goals, approves timesheets, hires and disciplines staff, oversees and evaluates the work of unit staff, and accomplishes other unit management-related tasks.

Required Education and Experience
Education
Possession of a bachelors degree in the physical sciences, biological sciences, resource management, sanitary science, environmental health, engineering, geology, or in geological, petroleum, or mining engineering.
Experience
Five years of professional experience in an engineering or scientific field carrying out geological and/or environmental activities to protect, develop and maintain natural resources; working in an environmental protection program; or, enforcing environmental health or environmental protection laws, including three years equivalent to the experienced (P11) level, two years equivalent to the advanced (12) level, or one year equivalent to a 13-level specialist or manager.

The work location of this position will be Lansing, MI. However, the selected candidate may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule (combination of remote and in-person). Paid Parental Leave:Eligible employees can take12 weeks of paid leaveimmediately after a birth or adoption to allow needed time together at home with a new child.
